It's the game you watch if you want to see real men playing sport rather than girly men who fall over after a little bump and writhe around on the ground like they have been shot even if nobody touched them.

All about options.

Real men playing sport? Go up your local rugby club and ask them if they agree.:)

Have you noticed all the ' safety gear ' the American football players wear, do they ride motorcycles to the match and not bother getting changed?

I'd be into American Rugby if it wasn't for the adverts. I want to watch sport, not adverts.

That's the spirit.
You would get slated for posting that on the official Super Bowl thread . :lolol:

stayed up to watch the first one that was televised over here, early 80's I think, just to see what all the fuss was about

unfortunately I fell asleep and haven't given it another chance

had a similiar experience last weekend when France won the Handball World Cup for the sixth time apparently
everybody over here was very excited, for me it's Basketball for idiots

I guess they would have the same opinion of Cricket, which I love

been to a Baseball game,Toronto Blue Jays and wasn't overly fussed about it

over than the standard 'British ' sports the only one I watched with a mild interest was Aussie Rules

oh and a bit of Ice Hockey

Not a fan simply because commercialism has been prioritised at the expense of the game itself.

However I think those suggesting that the sport is less dangerous due to the use of helmets and padding are being a bit naive. Statistics show both AF and rugby are equally as dangerous, albeit with different types of injury. The equipment used in AM can have the effect of giving a false sense of protection plus in AM a player can effectively be taken out at any time from any position, thereby resulting in players not always being in a position to prepare themselves for impact.

Improve the flow of play and take out the adverts and I think it could be a very entertaining sport.

Didn't even realise the Super Bowl was on... American football is just Rugby with helmets and a lot of extra padding ;)

Now people often say this about American football and rugby. But to me rugby is a pale version of American football with needlessly restrictive rules and with its players inadequately protected.

My only interest in it is if it is used as an excuse for the first airing of a Game of Thrones season 7 trailer.

The problem i have being used to watching both rugby codes is that AF just doesn't flow. I'm not a fan of the slow pnderous restart after every play, at least in league the chicken scratch is immediate adn in union you get phases building one after another. Union would be pretty dull if after every tackle there was a scrum

I was once on a train to London when the American football was at Wembley - loads of Brits getting on wearing American football shirts and talking about the game as if they lived in downtown Pittsburgh- trying just a bit too hard. Dreadful game. However, it is the subject of one of the best sports books ever - George Plimpton's Paper Lion.

The 'real man's' game is definitely Aussie Rules - love Aussie Rules

Big fan of the game. Saw the Bills at Wembley last year, an experience I'd waited over 30 years for. Won't be bothering this time - just can't stand the Patriots. Ball-deflating cheats, and they win all the time, and it's so damn dull. They're certainly going to win this one, probably quite comfortably, so I just can't find any enthusiasm for it. So here's a fan of the game who's on the indifferent side of the fence this time round.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Given the amount of body armour they wear, you might just as well give each team a set of large tanks to drive at each other.

How you can call any game "football" when the one thing it doesn't involve is kicking the ball (except when desperate or for a conversion) is beyond me.

Or maybe they are fans of the game, have an understanding of it and want to talk about it given the are knowledgeable- its far more accessible to watch than even the PL yet every man and his dog has an opinion on United or Chelsea etc
