...was in 1970 and Freddie Goodwin was the manager. We won 3-0 at Walsall but, for a little trivia question, where was the game played?

the table below makes interesting reading. only 2 teams were promoted and i think it was orient and luton who took those places. When we played Reading at home, over easter, there was a crowd of over 32,000 and the game was the commentry game on national radio, quite something for div 3!

By the seaside in West Somerset
Presume the game was played at Fellows Park - train wreck of a ground but had the advantage over Bescot of at least having some atmosphere

Walsall | Club | Past Grounds | FORMER GROUNDS

On February 25th 1970 Walsall played a 'home' third division League game against Brighton and Hove Albion on the ground of neighbours West Bromwich Albion because Fellows Park had been waterlogged for some weeks and The Saddlers desperately needed to ease a congested fixture list. Brighton won the match 3-0 and the crowd was 7,535.

Thanks Hiney [ Damn site, i selected the date but didn't press 'go' , bloody technology.

Anyway, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story and it was, indeed, played at the Hawthorns as fellows park, Walsalls old ground, was in such a state and Walsall had a huge fixture pile up following their FA Cup run which included 5 games against Albion.

Hmmmmfh, time for bed.
