They've fallen a bit into the shadows but surely deserve some attention as well.

Don't know much about most of them but I'm sure you can fill me in on some at least.

You guys know Crofts.

Lallana we all know.

Shannon Ruth - heard the name plenty of times and finally did some research and found out that this person is not a woman.

Nick Stanley - worked in the club for years as an analyst and GP promoted him to set piece specialist in the beginning of 2022. You've probably seen him a bit in the technical area during games (at least I have on tv). Before him, the club did not have a set piece-specialist, and without checking the stats recently, I would argue Brighton conceded very few goals from corners since the beginning of the year.

Jack Stern - goalkeeper coach, had a pretty extensive look at him when he joined in the middle of the year. American who moved to England when he was like seven or something. Ben Roberts knew him for like ten years and signed him up as his assistant after he left FC Cincinnati after the last season. Young but with many years of experience as a goalie coach in the MLS.

He’s not American, he was born in London and grew up in Heathfield, East Sussex. Supported Brighton (I’m fairly certain he sat near me at Withdean). Was on Wimbledons books from the age of 14 but released at the age of 16, tried to get signed by Brighton but was behind Richard Martin and John Sullivan so never got offered a deal. Dropped into non league football playing for Haywards Heath and Lewes before moving to the US on a scholarship but realised he didn’t like the pressure of games and wanted to concentrate on the training side.

After that he came back to England and got a sports coaching degree from University of Worcester, and studied for his badges at the same time. Started working for West Brom as an Acadmey goalkeeping coach before moving to Montréal and then onto FC Cincinnati as their head goalkeeping coach.

Ok, I stand corrected! I'm 99% sure I read he is English-American though but I take your word for the corrections : )

Always nice when fans work for their club.

How long before Lallana gets injured in the office?
Paper cut, bad back from slouching in a chair, whiplash from having to wear a tie.

Nice that - Poyet's first game in charge IIRC

I hadn't realised that Antonio had played for Southampton - I wonder if he and Lallana are the only two from that match still playing league football

Jack Stern tells his story up until FC Cincinnati, in great detail, here:

As an aside, that was a fantastic day of football.

I also have happy memories of Crofts scoring a slightly unusual header away to Wigan in a gritty 1 0 away win. I absolutely loved that day. Think it must have been under Garcia.

He also scored an absolute wonderstrike at Withdean against us for Gillingham. Unless my mind is playing tricks on me this is one of the few opposition goals i remember at Withdean.

Gritty player, great leader, i think he's mates with John Terry (eeeek). A little unusual how little exposure he's had while he's back at the club really.

What i don't remember is why his second stint at the club ended, possibly a bad injury? I don't recall. But i think I'm right in saying he was absolutely brilliant in a pre season friendly when we smashed the then Champions of Europe (Chelsea) at The Amex, 3-0.

Can see Crofty taking the team for a while. Confident he would keep the continuity going for the foreseeable. No need to rush the next appt and cock it up.

I was there. Remember it very well. Remember Crofts more than Lallana.. obviously!
I bought an away ticket on the Sunday morning at the Saints Ticket office for a Sunday afternoon match. What would be the chances of that happening these days

It's the game I remember as being the start of the journey to where we are now. Gus Poyet's first game, the first Tony Bloom's appointed manager, the first none British or Irish manager for the Albion.

It took a bit of time for the fans to get used to the possession based football and I remember Poyet nearly have a flounce because fans were shouting "Get it forward"

The football we played in league one at that time was revolutionary. Because we were doing so well teams would turn up and try to "park the bus" We would just play side to side, bit forward then back again, eventully the other side would lose patience and discipline and would try to get the ball back, as soon as the gap opened up we would exploit the space and go on to score. The other team would then have to come at us we would then finish them off scoring two or three more.

Winning the league one title the following season just in time to start life at the Amex in the championship.

Yep! That game was the start.
