[Albion] The 'Hyypia resignation/leaving' thread

Exactly right

Perhaps Hypia's role was undermined from the start with Sammy Lee departing within 48hrs. Maybe that was the catalyst where Sami needed a solid number 2 of his own and one with an excellent track record. If Lee had stayed who knows what might have happened?
My point throughout all of this debacle is that Football culture of today demands so much where paying large prices on attending and merchandise means that we (as fans) demand a return of investment, which is success. But how do you measure success when the club is aiming to be financially sustainable? (unlike other spending beyond their means - foundations of sand and all that). It also questions loyalty (of which we also demand) but is counteracted by impatience (back to the ROI thing). Throw in a manager (and number 2 who leaves very quickly) who has had very little say in recruitment, who also sees 'big' players leave the club and has joined us very close to the new season and you can start putting the pieces together. In this case, you could argue that Sami needed time, but time is a very precious commodity when you are staring into the abyss of League 1 (dramatic I know and is intended for effect). We gave our past 'young' managers time (Mullers, Poyet) but we were in the lower divisions where expectations were not as great as they are in this division (and with our relative recent success). A manager needs time, are we willing to offer this? Who knows, our success could be dropping down a league, building, promoting and gaining that momentum? Are we willing to accept that, or does our success depend on how much we pay at the gates where we demand much more than the club may be able to offer in the very near future?

good post.......at this moment i can't help thinking that everything about our club is just sub-standard.....sure we may well be prem ready but our recruitment/scouting set up is clearly no good and the failure to bring in an experienced assistant for Sami speaks volumes about the calibre of the people pulling the strings........merry ****ing christmas.....!!

Has anybody though they the reason Sami has decided to resign is that there is no money for January transfers to buy the club out of trouble???

We have had the scapegoat, but where do you all go now when the club don't invest sufficiently into the playing squad in January!

I have been saying it since the summer, the club doesn't have a pot to p*** in and cannot compete in this division, even after selling all the top players and recruiting average replacements.

Harry Houdini being appointed will struggle to save this side!

Very disappointed myself, should have given him time to turn it around. As for all the vitriolic abuse towards our manager who's been trying his best for our fantastic club, a lot of you on here should have a good long look at yourselves, disgraceful.

Yes it is sad that a good man like Sami has left, yes it is sad that his management career is probably finished (although let's remember that he is hardly going to starve given his career earnings) but let's not rewrite history - he did a truly appalling job with us even with the resources available to him and had already done an appalling job on his own at Leverkusen. Unfortunately he just isn't a coach - lots of great players aren't.

And Tim Sherwood is?

Somebody that was in charge of Tottenham for 28 games winning 14 drawing 4 and losing 10 with a squad assembled by another manager (and albeit a very competent squad)

He won't achieve anything if he comes! He will be worse than Hyppia.

Sami Hyypiä in charge of FC Haka currently 10th in the Finnish League stadium capacity 5000

god, he was utter shite as a manager...

Seems like only yesterday, v Millwall that was one of the most toxic times at the Amex, real dissent amongst the the crowd.

Well... ish. He is a help coach, sort of like Björn Hamberg. Teemu Tainio (old Spurs player) is the manager and some random Finn is the assistant.

If memory serves, he resigned within hours of attending a particularly toxic Junior Seagulls Xmas Party :xmas:
