...the Evening Star in Brighton. Not according to me, but according to the Internet. More specifically beerintheevening.com:

Top 40 Pubs rated by beerintheevening users

They reckon they've been second a few times, and never out of the top six or seven, but this is the first time they're aware of being top, and have been there as of yesterday afternoon.

They're also the only non London pub in the Top Ten. London's only Harvey's pub is currently in second place. The Nelson and Basketmakers sneak into the Top 20.

Congrats to all at the Star.

What do YOU reckon the best pub in the UK is...?

Weatherspoons pubs are full of weirdos. I asked to take this mans picture in the one in Littlehampton because he "had a funny head" and he happily obliged.

I worked a couple of doors down at the Early Learning Center when I was at University. Never drank there once. I suppose there were no student deals.

Used to love all the secret little alcoves in there, perfect for hiding from people from work. Especially in Winter when they did a laughing and falling down water called Santa's Old Sledgehammer. It was something stupid like 10 percent and not much work got done on days like these :drunk:

Seems a fairly London biased survey that!

Best pub for me is the Kelham Island Tavern in Sheffield. Recently won CAMRA pub of the year award for the second year running. Odd that it's not in that list anywhere...

Have you rated it? I agree that it's oddly London skewed, but pretty much every pub in the UK is listed on beerintheevening and that Top 40 is an ever changing summary of the Top 40 average ratings (for every pub that has been rated by 25 or more people).

The Kelham Island can't be far off the list, with its 7.3 average rating (rated by 109 people, compared to the Evening Star's 287 people and 7.6 rating) - as ratings are presumably rounded up/down that might be very close to the 7.4s at the bottom of the Top 40:

I've no idea why so many London places are so highly rated in comparison to the rest of the country, but I agree that I'd expect places like the Kelham Island Tavern and Fat Cat Sheffield, Brunswick Derby, Swan & Rushes Leicester, Coach & Horses and Fat Cat Norwich to feature. They all have high ratings so can't be far off - in fact, the Swan & Rushes has 7.6 and 25 people rated it, so it will probably be a new entry up near the top soon.

Imo the Flowerpot in town is alot better than the Brunswick. It brews 5/6 of it's own- The Headless Brewing Co- ranges between 12-25 beers on most days, has a great atmosphere-incidentally i bumped into ad Addick in there last night, i said thanks for the 3 points :lolol: . The Brunswick lacks atmosphere and friendlieness. The Brunswick is only useful for matchdays cos that's when it comes to life.

The Evening Star is a ridiculous choice. It has one thing and one thing only going for it. Its' selection of real ale and the Fat Cat in Shef has that beat hands down. . Other than that it is at best average. Rubbish location, opposite 2 porn shops, right on the main road, and pretty much zero outside space. what criteria are these morons basing this on?

Then join the site and rate the Fat Cat Sheffield accordingly. You seem to imagine this is a chart based on the views of a couple of people's opinion. It's not, it's the UK's biggest pub reviews site, absolutely ANYONE can join instantly and for free and start rating pubs. There's something like 250,000 members/reviewers and that Top 40 is their combined view. Join up and have your own say if you feel differently.

And, for what it's worth, the Fat Cat in Norwich poops all over the Sheffield pub it stole its name from (although they are both good).

No Stand Up Inn, Lindfield? It's got everything needed to be a good pub. Real ale at good prices and a cosy atmosphere with no rowdy, pissed up youngsters.
