Albion have been told they will be signing a winner and a supreme competitor when they bring in Gordon Greer today on a three-year deal.

The Swindon centre-back and skipper will sign, subject to a medical, for an as yet undisclosed fee believed to be around £250,000.

Greer's arrival represents a major coup for Seagulls boss Gus Poyet as he plots a League One promotion push.

The 29-year-old Glaswegian led Swindon into the top six last season and is an inspirational figure according to former Albion striker Alex Revell, who played under his captaincy at the County Ground.

Revell, now with Leyton Orient, said of Greer: "He's a winner. He hates losing and he hates conceding goals.

"He's good on the ball and difficult to play against.

"He's an aggressive player, a competitor, very committed. He's one of the best defenders in this league without a doubt "I think Swindon made him captain straight away and he is very much a leader. He's a winner and he brings that out in other people."

Poyet is also likely to add Radostin Kishishev to his squad and keep hold of Gary Hart, both on one-year deals.

But the future of defenders Jimmy McNulty and James Tunnicliffe was thrown into some doubt when they were left out of Saturday's 1-0 friendly win at Burgess Hill.

Poyet admits on-trial winger Kevin Bobson was not in best shape to impress at Leylands Park.

The 29-year-old Dutchman, who progressed through Ajax's famed youth set-up and also played for NAC Breda and Willem II, was recommended to Poyet as a player capable of going past defenders.

Poyet said: "I think he came at the wrong time. We have been training very hard and he was not at the same level of fitness."

Albion expect to receive clearance today from the Argentinean FA for Cristian Baz and Agustin Battipiedi, allowing them to play against Whitehawk at Worthing tomorrow.
