Sunday - How to get out of Bristol?

I know this has been discussed on other threads, but I'm in a spot, and would welcome any bright ideas.

For various reasons, I'm unable to leave Edinburgh until Sunday morning, so my only means of getting to Cardiff is to fly into Bristol on Easyjet (flight arrives at 11.05am). I know the trains are going to be hellish, and I haven't got a train ticket yet.

First of all - anyone else flying into Bristol? And secondly, what do folk reckon would be the best way to get from Brizzle Airport to Cardiff?

(I'd prefer not to swim between the two, but the way things are going, I'm not ruling it out just yet.)

You're going to have serious difficulties mate. There is the Airport Express bus which will take you into town/Temple Meads. I think your best bet would be to get that to Temple Meads and see how the land lies. The trains won't be good, but a lot of Brizz fans will be driving after the problems at the LDV Final. Also - they'll want to be in Cardiff early so by the time you get there, it may not be quite so bad.

I'm not sure of bus options, but you may be left with bartering with a taxi driver for the trip there or getting him to take you somewhere South of Bristol to get on a train there so you'll already be on one as it gets to Temple Meads...

Cheers Bozza - pretty much as I expected.

I reckon the plan to get a train from somewhere outside Bristol might be the best idea - there seem to be quite a few trains from the south west that pass through Bristol to Cardiff. I'm struggling to think of any other options. I don't reckon buses will be any easier to get on than trains, to be honest, but I'll find a way to Cardiff even if it means a GTA-style carjacking...

Difficult one, the trains are likely to be rammed and they are currently stating that there is *no* assurance that they'll get everyone who's bought tickets on a train!!

Alot of the folk over the pond suggest going to Newport and getting a shuttle bus into Cardiff from there.

All the trains before 9.30am will be by bus to Newport anyway as Network Rail thought it would be a good idea to do engineering work on Sunday morning (mupets!)

You can get some trains that go direct to Cardiff missing out Temple Meads but then they'll probably be busy too.

Perhaps Bozza could give you a lift :lolol:

I'd gladly do it, but my lift is rolling out of Nailsea somewhere between 9 and 10. And the car is full, unfortunately.

SoL - thought about seeing if there are local taxi firms that specialise in airport taxis? You may be able to negotiate a good price direct from the airport. It will be quicker than any other way, and it may actually be cheaper than making the separate journeys into town/to another town and then to Cardiff. Try phoning the airport's general info desk (0870 12 12 747) to see if they have recommended companies.

btw will you be sitting with any of the other BHAlbas?

How about hiring a car for the day from Bristol Airport ? Sort it all out in advance, and jump in your hire car as soon as you land. I bet it'd work out cheaper than a taxi.

Do you drive? You could always hire a car from the airport - should cost about 35 quid for the day and you'd be able to set off directly from the airport. National rentacar are often reasonably priced in my experience...

That's something I'd certainly considered - the only thing is, it would have to be with a company with a Cardiff base as well, since our flight back is direct from Cardiff. So I'd need to be able to drop it off before the game.

Cheers for all your suggestions though - all very much appreciated.

Fatbadger - I'm unlikely to be sitting with the other Albas, as my dad and I got our tickets via someone we know at the club (and yes, we did pay for them...) - but we should be up for the photo etc. beforehand, as long as we make it from Bristol OK.

We are also apparently due on SCR at 1:30 if you can meet up with us by then. If not, it's 2 for the photo.

If you need to get a cab from bristol airport then you might be better off booking in advance because they don't have a rank outside the airport. Airportcarz is the company you want.

If you can get to Clifton by 11am I can give you a lift. But we leave at 11am.

Hire a car and go over the river on the north bridge (the old one) - most people will just follow the M4 and get stuck on the new one. A few mins up the road will save you some time - I did it with the Rugby last year.
