Confirmed as Sunderland boss on a three year contract.

Given that he never seems to stay anywhere longer than a season or two and has zero loyalty what odd on him seeing out that deal?

just under 6 years and would have stayed had it not been for complete mismanagement of a takeover by the Board of Directors - pretty good by anyone's standards

walked out on palace for that job - completely understandable
wigan - has now left them twice. seems fair enough this time, they cant really go any further whereas sunderland could quite feasibly challenge for europe

who else has he been manager of?

He's just told a joke on SSN, about a boxer dog with athritis, showcasing the great humour of people in the North East, it was rubbish.

He only seems to achieve relative success, never seems to take a team to a higher level than mid table obscurity.Thought last season Wigan were going well and then they just seemed to tread water.
Think he may do well at Sunderland as they will flash some cash and are quite ambitious.
Always admired the way he tries to get his teams to play a bit though.

Not if the rumours that he is going to take Titus Bramble to Sunderland with him.

Bramble had a good season. The Wigan fans loved him - ok, he made a lot of mistakes at the Toon, but he's not that bad. As for Bruce, I reckon he'll do ok, looks like he's going to get reasonable funds and Niall Quinn must be a decent chairman to work for. All in all, better prospects than Wigan who just don't get the crowds in.

He was shit at Newcastle- if you watched him last season though you'd see the Bruce actually has turned him around. Showing a lot more quality now..

Can understand why he would leave Wigan for Sunderland.

Wigan have more or less reached as far as they can go whilst Sunderland definitely have the potential to aim for higher.

He has stayed in his last two jobs for a good few years so I think the mercenary tag is a mite unfair now.

If Bramble moves with him that is an absolutely flair signing for the Black Cats.

Whatever you may think, Titus is a quality defender:bowdown:

Good luck to Bruce, it will be interesting to see what he does with a few quid to spend.

Wigan fans must be feeling worried now, particularly as they're apparently set to offer Roberto Martinez of Swansea the gig. This is great news for the likes of Hull, Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley.

Martinez has no Prem experience as a manager OR player, English isn't his first language, and if he was all that he's cracked up to be surely it would be him with Swansea, and not Owen Coyle's Burnley, in the Prem next season?

There's not many managers that could sign Valencia and Palacios cheaply, then see them sold for a £30mill profit some 2 years later. He hasn't wasted much money at Wigan and seems to get good performances out of those players he signs.

When Heskey signed for Wigan and Owen signed for Newcastle there isn't one football fan who'd have thought the bloke in the 3 Lions now would be Heskey.

The likes of Bramble and Kirkland have got their careers firmly back on track, Boro loss over Lee Cattermole was Wigan's gain, he got N'Zogbia from Newcastle, Rodallega's useful plus good pros like Edman, Scharner, Brown.

He's the sort of manager that has the nous to keep a team in the top flight, but can he do it at a big club?
