Why is it that we seem to have a managerial merry go round, where the same faces simply seem to swap seats? Logically, if a manager spectacularly fails they should be removed from the list and make way for new blood. For example, how on Earth did John Barnes ever manage to get the Tranmere job?

I'd just like to see us think a little differently for once and appoint somebody with the qualifications to do the job regardless of whether or not they are a big "name".

I sympathise with this post.

I was always a big admirer of Roy Hodgson, but he took a lot of crap, particularly after his short stay at Blackburn.

Now he's really turning Fulham into a decent club. But for years he was just someone who managed a club in Sweden no-one had heard of.

Southgate with Venables as director of football, Southgate is defensively minded which would certainly be an advantage at the moment he has strong connections to big clubs Boro and Villa, intelligent and has a lot to prove. I don't think there is a premiership club waiting for him. He has always played with h heart for England. Venables could be a mentor for him , bring in an experienced coach and add a touch of razzamatazz. An alternative to Venables could be George Graham or Graeme Souness. Big characters, not popular but excellent track records

However he one thing going for him.
He is a Pistols fan

I seem to recall GS & Psycho getting up on stage with The Pistols (Mk??) at possibly The Rainbow back in the day. Fair play all round, but I remember them looking a bit 'nurdy' if the truth be known. Well either that - or I'm talking a load of, ahem, Bollocks.

ps I'm not sure if Mr Southgate is the right guy for The Albion job meself, but at least he's VACANT (if not very PRETTY) innit?

Why the HELL would anyone want this dick?
He's done NOTHING in football, other than get Middlesborough relegated and scare off the fans with his dull football.

Southgate would be absolute SHIT.

Wasn't he given a special dispensation by the Premier League to continue managing while he did not have the required coaching qualification? If so, did he ever actually get it? Either way, I'm not mad on the thought of him as an appointment. Nice chap but he has done nothing to suggest that he would bring anything significant to the club.

Now here's a thought. Some years ago I was living in Delhi. While I was there the Indian Football Federation appointed a Brit named Stephen Constantine as the national coach. He had previously taken Nepal to their best ranking. He's moved here there and everywhere since and became the national coach for Sudan earlier this year. The guy is qualified to the hilt and is one of the only guys in the country to hold the top UEFA coaching qualification: the Pro Licence.

I got to meet him one evening and we were having a bit of a chat. He was teetotal and wafer thin. He was very big on the physical fitness aspect of the game. He told me that he had applied for just about every position going in the UK, including applications for Brighton more than once. Despite having every qualification going he never even seemed to get so much as an interview. It seemed that as he had no playing pedigree he was not hooked up to the "Old Boys Network".

Why is it that we seem to have a managerial merry go round, where the same faces simply seem to swap seats? Logically, if a manager spectacularly fails they should be removed from the list and make way for new blood. For example, how on Earth did John Barnes ever manage to get the Tranmere job?

Sounds decent, but maybe a bit too 'international' at present for us perhaps?

I'd rather Southgate than a journeyman that has been doing fairly well in League One for years.

The reason I'd like Southgate is managers like him (and Ince) will be determined to succeed to get back to where they were (the prem) and they have a large number of contacts.

Oh and we need someone to challenge the HAWK in term of the biggest NOSE.

Southgate had loads of money and he still got Middlesboro relegated, how will he cope with a small budget?
Wise has been mentioned, but what has he done?
Coppell is out of the running.

Who does that leave?
I've heard that Danny Cullip is sniffing around.

Perhaps Tony Bloom was a little premature is sacking Slade. What if we can't get a decent manager?
