Such appointments ebb and flow. Whether that be the Leader of the Conservative Party, Director General of the BBC or Manager of England we are simply in a "safe pair" of hands period.

A temperamental fruit cake will be along soon.

I watched both games as much as I could bear and I think he’s naive and lacking imagination. He’s good with the press which is a big part of the job so that’s nice.

But there are glaring omissions from his squad (mainly Dunk) and his team selection and tactics look one dimensional.

Lallana has a chance of getting back in because that’s exactly what we were missing in both games.

As is the FA alternating between an overseas coach (“a proven winner“) versus native (“great record with the age groups”).

Alot of people sceptical of our 2018 semi final acheivement because the draw opened up for us and we had an easy path

But cast your minds back to Italia 90, our only other semi appearance post 66. We were lacklustre in the group, only getting through by scraping a win against Egypt. in the next round we got through right at the death against Belgium who weren't a top team back then. In the quarters we only beat Cameroon cos they imploded and gave us 2 cheap pens. So our only wins in 90 mins were Egypt and Cameroon - You can pick holes in anything, don't forget we were awful in Euro 88, lost every match

Yet Bobby is a genius !

To win tournaments you need luck !

I was thinking more of a manager who doesn't speak English, has questionable tax arrangements, keeps an exotic animal whose expenses are always built into his contractual arrangements and a wife half his age.

Or Gareth Southgate.

It wasn’t an opinion it is a fact. Only Sir Alf Ramsey has done better than Southgate though Bobby Robson did equally well but no better, thats not open for debate it’s in the history books. Both achieved fourth place in the World Cup and actually Southgate won four games in the tournament to to Robsons three) Also if you think this is the best tram since Robson you are taking rubbish to prove your agenda. The teams of 2002, 2004 and 2006 were miles ahead in terms of talent available. Also he inherited a team knocked out by Iceland so again you are talking rubbish.

All depends on whether you only look at stats or you actually bother to delve deeper. Robson was knocked out of two world cups by the eventual winners!

But (were he alive today) could he name them?

And if he could, could he pronounce their names correctly? ???

Before the last 2 England games there was a pick your team to start against Iceland / Denmark on the BBC website and tbh it was nearly impossible from the players selected as the majority were uninspiring, average players (midfield and defence were the main areas that were weakest and therefore hardest to pick the obvious line ups for - i'd definitely have picked Dunk if he was there) and it says more about what is out there for any England manager to choose from so if we did change manager to someone new, we'd still have this problem of who they can pick for their squad
