Is anyone familiar with these Albion nicknames from days gone by?

Shrimps, Lugworms, Limpets, Flounders, Promenaders

Perhaps we should reintroduce the Lugworms chant?

My username was an attempt in the 1950s (by the Supporters' Club I think) to invent a nickname for the club. It's a portmanteau word of Brighton, Hove and Albion. Strangley it didn't catch on otherwise we'd all be chanting "Brovions! Brovions!" Also there's be some interesting usernames on here: LeicesterVion and Brovionsovergrimsby for example.

weren't we called the Dolphins for a while?
Yes, it got ditched in favour of Seagulls. Again it never really caught on with the fans, from memory it was an Argus competition. Also from memory I think Tim Carder discovered that we were never actually called 'the shrimps', but it was often used by football publications in the 1960s when giving out club details.

I also believe that at one time the reserves were called 'the lambs'.

Leicester where did you get those names from?

I think all these nicknames were sort of forced upon us more than anything else.
"Seagulls" came about by the fans spontaneously and has stuck. Lots of reading matter to be had on the subject.

The Herb Garden
From memory, when the rivalry between us and Palace was at its height in late 70's, early 80's they became (Malcolm) Allison's Eagles (were formerly called the Glaziers). In oppostion to the Eagles chant we started SEAGULLS. Those were the days.
