Worthing
I suspect the nuances of Middle Eastern politics is beyond us all. There are so many vested interests, US, Qatar, Russia, Saudi, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Israel and so on all have their ideal outcome, support different militias explicitly or covertly, and it by definition if one country gets it's way it will be at the expense of someone else.

Assad is an obnoxious dictator, as was Saddam and Gaddafi, but regime change has not made for a better country for the indigenous population there or the world a safer place.

The foreign policy actions of Bush, Blair, Obama and Cameron have created a power vacuum and the consequent toxic soup within those countries that has allowed ISIS to flourish.

The internet has made the world a flatter, more connected place, so you don't necessarily need training camps in the Middle East to create terrorists and mayhem, just an alienated, disaffected bunch of angry young men (and women) with an internet connection. We learnt that on 7/7.

Excellent post

On this topic Sir, you are an arse! Repeatedly trying to derail a perfectly good topic for discussion with low quality one liners just because the consensus does not sit comfortably with your own liberal ideals. It smacks even more of being a poor loser as you originally moved it to 'The Other Stuff' but were overruled by Bozza. Shame on you.

I moved it to the other stuff because It was reported to Mod Control for the infighting into which it had descended.

The topic was derailed ages ago when many decided it made more sense to call each other's names rather than actually discuss the topic.

If the name calling has diminished it could be that quite a few have been kicked off the thread.

He's right though, you're one liners are out of place really. Lezzas ? It wasn't even Lesbos, the Island was Leros.

I agree that some preachers spouted their crap from mosques then, but they don't even have to use that medium now.

If we stopped the preachers in the mosques are you 100% certain we'd stop the terrorism though?

The world has moved on since the 90's in terms of indoctrination.

I think that's where we need to start in the UK. Get the messages in the mosques that Choudry and his ilk are poisonous snakes, that the rest of us have no problems with their faith but that they have to buy in to being British as well as Muslim. The ones who are in danger of being radicalised are by their very nature more likely to be spending their time in the mosques so yes, it really needs to start there.

There's a lot of responsibility on all of us including the Muslim elders in the mosques to sort this problem out but at the same time I'd also reinforce the message that the vast majority of us are not and do not want to be Muslim and it's pointless for these idiots even to think about such things. They need to assimilate. Hold onto their faith but embrace British values too.

I know it was Leros, but take a look at post 460 to which my reply was directed and see what it said there.

Just playing devils advocate here, but wouldn't western air attacks cause the same fatalities each day maybe, in their so called Islamic state.

That maybe a reason for their wanting revenge on soft targets.

One of the terrorists actually had a ticket for the stade de France but was stopped by security. Then blew himself up. Yes it could have really been worse.

I'm not sure the middle one of those three is compatible with the other two. Is any truly devout religious mindset that holds rigidly to the teachings of their chosen book compatible with life in a liberal western democracy?

"In the name of Allah, the All Merciful, the Very Merciful.

The Very High All Said: “It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah ; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers.
So take warning, O people of vision.” Surah 59 verse 2.

In a blessed attack for which Allah facilitated the causes for success, a faithful group of the soldiers of the Caliphate – may Allah dignify it and make it victorious – launched out. It targetted the capital of prostitution and obscenity, the carrier of the banner of the Cross in Europe: Paris.... " /

etc, etc, Cont Surah 94.

3/10 See me, especially regarding:-

1 Be more succinct: more is less. Most infidels will be legging it down the pub after your first paragraph.

2 Try and avoid references to Crusaders, better known to filthy infidels as a jazz-funk band from the 1970s

3 If you must go all medieval, do try and be more imaginative. Use of the vocative 'O Ye Abominable Unbelievers...' is always good

4 For added impact, try a few "Verily I say unto yous" . Always worked well for Allah [SAW] back when he was moonlighting for the Jews as Jahweh and knocking out a few old testaments

5 And finally, go easy on the puritan angle. Just in case your suicide belt doesn't go off and the French police come round your house and your dad shows them your Virgins & Cameltoes porn stash.

The Paris prosecutor says that 352 people were injured, with at least 99 still in critical condition. Seven terrorists have died following their actions.

I think they can, I'm seeing some people tonight who are strict Orthodox Jews and they manage.

So long as people are willing to tolerate differences then there shouldn't be an issue.

Those Muslims, Christians, Jews and any other cloud inspired leaders who don't want to tolerate others should find their own island.

Along with the EU?

This mess needs a coordinated response. You'd be a sitting duck if you isolated yourselves now. I don't think the UK would be stupid enough.
