FFS. I just had a message pop up on my phone saying the commentary was playing in the back ground and the phone started hissing. Seemingly no where I can stop the 'commentary' either; the usual play/pause button had disappeared. I have had to delete the app. What utter ****ing shite this app is. How can the club continue to promote and take money for this rubbish.

Can you not just close the app (i.e. not just stop using the app, but actually close it so it doesn't appear on the recent app list)? On iOS double tap home to bring up list of apps recently used, then swipe up on it if iOS7 or hold until it goes wiggly then click the cross to close it properly - I would presume there would be a way to close the app on an android Or the traditional turn the phone off and then on again?

Radio Sussex do not broadcast the Albion games over the net as they don't have digital rights. Occasionally they've made a mistake but usually it's only non league matches that are streamed.
... And that's because the Football League want to screw money out of fans who want to follow games online. They do this by means of a lucrative (for them) deal with the Player network.

How about rewarding fans, instead of just finding extra ways to take yet more money out of our pockets?

Probably. But I have simply had enough of the app and the club's repeated failure to resolve the issues. Deleting and cancelling my subscription is a suitable conclusion.

I was looking forward to sitting down with a beer and listening to the commentary yesterday. It was a very frustrating time shared by many supporters. It's utter gash and the club do not have the ability to fix it.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I sent off an e-mail to PB before El Pres did and seeing how he has posted the reply I will do the same. First is the e-mail I sent to PB.

Hi Paul ,
Another splendid win this afternoon. However myself and many others had to rely on North Stand Chat , Twitter and the BBC Football website for updates from the game including Matty Upson's winning goal for the last 20 minutes because we couldn't hear anything. Seagulls Player was a complete nightmare this afternoon , it didn't bode well when I first logged on at about 2.30 pm and the audio kept clicking off and on accompanied by stuttering which we've endured on many an occasion in the past. The commentary stream died completely at 16.32 pm and only returned when the match went into stoppage time. There is obviously a problem and Paul Camillin seems to be stuck in the middle taking all the flak when the failures are elsewhere. Seagulls Player at present is not a good advert for the club and is giving a bad impression. May I suggest you look at the "Seagulls Player" thread on North Stand Chat for more insight ?

Dear Bob

Thank you for your email.

I'm sorry to hear of the ongoing problems with Seagulls Player.

Unfortunately, the issues we have been facing this season are not within Paul Camillin's or the club's direct control. We are of course very aware of the problems and we have made our feelings known to the Football League at the highest levels.

However, like most clubs in the Football League, we are currently tied to a long term agreement with the League - for both Seagulls Player and the club's website template (which I also consider to be poor) - and, to be honest, I would prefer to be free of both products to do our own thing.

The current agreement - called Football League Interactive (FLi) actually dates as far back as Dick Knight's time as Chairman of the club and we are only free to break the contract if we secure promotion to the Premier League - i.e. we cease to be a Football League club.

Once again, I will be writing to The Football League to convey the views of our fans and to seek answers for the problems we continue to experience. Paul will ensure the League's response is communicated to Seagulls Player subscribers. In the meantime, thank you for your patience - and for your support.

Kind regards, Paul

I had a further e-mail this afternoon from Insider -

Hi Bob
Apologies for today. We did try to resolve for most of the game, but all very frustrating. Thanks for your understanding. I have provided some further insight on the thread and as Paul says we will be raising this with the Football League. We will feedback.

Paul

I think you will find it is a Football League partnership & therefore the club DONT have a choice as they are in the football league.
But Newport County don't use the Perform service. Live match commentaries for home and away games are available online (nationwide and internationally) via Newport City Radio, a small, independent local radio station. And they show highlights on the Club's website. All free of charge to fans.

Contracts can be terminated for breach under failure to fulfill.

Perhaps if B&HAFC were to discuss their contractual involvement with the FL in this debacle then either someone will get a kick up the ar$e to sort it or they will agree to rescind the B&HAFC contract leaving us free to proceed with our own solution.

If it were an actual player performing this bad we would have got shot and terminated contracts "by mutual consent" a while back.

Following discussions between representatives of the club and the Football League, and subsequent discussions between the Football League and Perform, we hope that from Saturday's match against Huddersfield Town, and for each match thereafter, all Seagulls Player subscribers will be able to enjoy the full commentary product without interruption.

Perform are confident they have identified the issue as a potential hardware problem, and have upgraded various equipment during this week.

They have also provided the club with a new ISDN line number for BBC Sussex to connect via and undertaken to constantly monitor the quality of the feed during all matches going forward.

In addition, should problems arise, the club has invested in the hardware and software to provide a back-up system - as we feel it is unfair for our fans to commit the time to follow the team in this way and not be provided with the service as expected.

We hope we will not need to use this back-up system, but should it be necessary a link will be provided via the Audio Commentary page of Seagulls Player and other methods.

Perform has also issued the following apology to all Seagulls Player subscribers:

We are aware that there were audio commentary disruptions to the Seagulls Player service during the club’s fixture at Middlesbrough on Saturday 14th December and that there have been previous issues during other fixtures this season.

We would like to offer a full apology to all those subscribers affected, and reassure them that we are confident we have identified the issue.

Our technical support, live operations and network teams will be closely monitoring the situation across future fixtures involving Brighton & Hove Albion.

Furthermore, to compensate for the ongoing issues this season, Perform have agreed to pay the club an undisclosed sum, to be distributed equally amongst current Seagulls Player subscribers.

Those eligible can request a refund or may opt for monies to be donated to Albion in the Community, Brighton & Hove Albion's charitable arm. Funds donated in this way will be channelled towards AITC's disability programme, and in particular the Albion Power Chair team.

Subscribers will be contacted via the email address registered to their Seagulls Player account in the next 10 working days with further details.

Once again, please accept our apologies.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber commented, "What has gone on previously has been unacceptable, and both the Football League and Perform have pledged to resolve the issue.

"Their action, apology and compensation offer made this week has been appreciated, and we are hopeful they will be able to provide a resolution to the issues moving forward.

"During our discussions with the Football League's recently appointed new head of digital Russell Scott, it is clear he he has inherited some ongoing problems, but we have been enthused by some of his longer-term plans for FLi's digital output.

"We look forward to working with Russell and his team moving forward, and engaging them with some of our supporters, where possible, to help FLi provide a digital service to Albion fans - and those of other clubs - which we can all be proud."

What is most strange is that every time Brighton's commentary is compromised one is able to listen to the oppositions commentary of the same match.

Does this mean we are the only team's coverage that is being affected?

I have encountered the same problem once or twice when listening to an alternative commentary option, though it does seem we are affected more.
