Scargill hurt in station accident
Former miners' leader Arthur Scargill was recovering in hospital after being knocked over by a suitcase as he boarded a train.
Mr Scargill, 66, broke a bone in his elbow in the accident at Sheffield railway station.
He had been on his way to a meeting in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, to mark the 20th anniversary of the miners' strike when he fell and was knocked unconscious.
Liz Screen, Welsh general secretary of Mr Scargill's Socialist Labour Party, said: "He was boarding a train to come to Cardiff. He was putting a foot on to the train when it happened."
She said Mr Scargill had been knocked off balance by a suitcase on wheels being pulled by another passenger.
"He was knocked badly and was unconscious," said Ms Screen.
Mr Scargill was taken to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital for treatment, where Ms Screen said he had undergone surgery on the injured elbow.
A hospital spokeswoman said: "Mr Scargill was admitted to our A&E at the Northern General Hospital today with an injury to his left arm.
"He was assessed by nursing staff where it was discovered he had broken a bone in his elbow.
"He'll be reviewed by our orthopaedic team who will decide on the best treatment, but he is comfortable and being looked after by our staff."
