In the drone war, the Russians are learning and adapting. It isn't easy to defend against drones, whichever side you're on.
It will be interesting to see if tactical improvements can reverse these setbacks soon
What do you mean by this? The global population in 1950 was 2.5 billion, then in 1960 it was 3 billion. By 1970 it reached 3.7 billion and now it's at 8 billion.

It's an interesting read. Sounds like the US will put some pressure on Europe to supply Patriot launchers - but then we read in there that Greece and Spain for example won't do that. All European countries need to start thinking of Ukraine as the eastern defence line for their own countries...because that's pretty much what it is.

Bit late in reporting this, but it looks like a hatrick for Ukraine:
- an oil refinery, a bitumen plant and an airfield, all in the Krasnodar region.

Nice, that refinery's going to burn for a while - I suspect it's more than a partial shutdown of operations.

I don't usually post updates from the ground war because a) I don't understand it and b) it is rarely good news. However, David Axe is a good writer, makes the news accessible, tells it how it is, and in this case, ends with a glimmer of hope. I'll take that.

Not sure there is an easy fix to the disparity of troops. Ukraine can't just conjure them up. Maybe tap into the female population for non-combat roles like drone operators / snipers etc?
Maybe the arrival of western smart weapons will make the difference. Ukraine seems to be good at finding weak spots in the Russian war machine.
Don't forget the 3 day special military operation is approaching its 800th day and Russia, which outnumbers and outguns Ukraine, still only occupies 20% of Ukraine. There's a reason for that.
Yes, Russia will always have superior troop numbers in these operations, so as you say Ukraine needs smarter weapons and tactics.
The current mobilisation effort in Ukraine has a softer approach, offering roles and asking for volunteers to take them: drone operators, chefs, tank drivers etc etc. There won't be many takers for front line troop operations though.
The Russian air and artillery advantage is starting to show - Ukraine need those promised weapons asap and many more drones and operators too.
