I'm guessing Adele saw the show Katy Perry did for her her Vegas residency and realised that she'd have to put in a bit more effort than standing in front of a piano chewing up all the miserable words in the dictionary and spitting them out with a few swear words as it's live.

Re-sale price. Sad that people are that desperate and stupid to pay such prices because they won't get their money back, the original purchaser will get their face value refund or best they can hope is tickets remain valid for a new date.

Went to Vegas a number of years ago and some of the groups/artists in the casino bars were stunning (without being household names) and free to attend. Perhaps times have changed.

Absolutely this, always look out for tribute acts etc. On my first visit to Vegas we caught an 'Elvis' in the sadly no more 'Westward Ho', a top notch memory

A particularly good point, this. Surely all she needs is a stage and a mic - in fact a "stripped down" version of the show would probably be quite refreshing. True fans aren't going for the spectacle, they're just going for the music. Sounds like a right old "covid" cop-out.

BTW, I can't stand her depressing warbling. I'd rather chew off my right arm at the shoulder than sit through one of her shows, but each to their own.

She could have done a Q&A for the fans a couple of songs and refunded people that have tickets, it would have been the right thing to do.

We had a group booking via work that was around 300k to go to see her in vegas, what a complete waste of time.

Its clearly not her fault it happened, but she could have done more after it did.

Judging an album by how many units it shifts is seldom a good idea. I can think of innumerable records that sold huge numbers when released that are now utterly forgotten or widely derided. I can also think of records and artists whose sales never amounted to anything who are now rightly revered. Amy W only released two albums in her lifetime - both acclaimed and both big sellers. so I don't think your appraisal of her career and work is quite accurate. As for 'screwing up' - we are all susceptible to addiction - and those addictions certainly screw us up - on many levels.

I concur - it’s unfair to compare Amy with Adele . Amy was a huge talent , Adele is a slightly above average talent with a brilliant manager .

It's her fault she didn't just go ahead with a basic concert. She could still have showed she cared about her fans and made it special with a few deeper dives in to her repertoire and made it unique.

The point is that everything is relative. Currently you would decide to spend x% of your income on an event. Someone spending £22k on an event is also paying the same x% of their income.

Thanks for that, the missus is dragging me to Wembley next year to see Coldplay….only £96 a ticket. Absolute bargain to sit and be bored

Yes - he's a good example of what I'm talking about. As is his friend and Island label mate John Martyn. Wonderful talents both. Nick's crippling introversion and psychological problems precluded him from touring to promote his records. John was a wild, wayward man who cared nothing for commercial success - he just followed his own muse. Both were adored by other musicians [like the great double bassist Danny Thompson who played with both of them] who understood their musical brilliance.

I don't really get this - surely if she went out there with a band and sang some songs people would have been happy. It didn't need to be a "show". Why not just say "for the first shows we are doing a low-key no-frills performance"..?
