Not a Queen fan myself, didn't mind the early stuff, didn't rate Freddie as a singer, just my opinion.

What don't you rate about him? I'm genuinely curious.

In your eye's.
Only ones I've got :)
I am not denying that Freddie was a great showman and ideal front man for Queen, just not a great singer.
Ok singer, but not great.
Seriously, do some reading about him. He had amazing vocal control.

Montserrat Cabballé (a Spanish operatic soprano who wanted Freddie to sing opera with her)
"His technique was astonishing. No problem of tempo, he sung with an incisive sense of rhythm, his vocal placement was very good and he was able to glide effortlessly from a register to another. He also had a great musicality. His phrasing was subtle, delicate and sweet or energetic and slamming. He was able to find the right colouring or expressive nuance for each word."

It's just inaccurate to describe his ability as a singer as "not very good". He had an incredible talent for singing.
