A contributory factor yes.

It's Still not an excuse for the fact we can't score goals or win a game.

Well it is an excuse isn't it,surely? We haven't spent as much as those above us to enable us to score enough to climb up the table. Bar very rare exceptions the table pretty much ends up reflecting the amount of cash spent.

The way the media is playing up Newcastle's miraculous rise up the league; they spent more money than anyone in Europe in january ffs.

Must be nearly time to unveil this season's (orange-free) Teams That We Can't Catch / Can't Catch Us Acker79

The league table is starting to reflect the spending/budget table now. Villa have spent massively (at least on wages) and should be creeping up the table.

The only exception is Everton and they are pretty much a rudderless ship at the moment.

Villa’s spend on fees is vast. £400m in about 5 windows?

Two wealthy owners have funded it, disregarding huge trading losses and an empty BCD stadium.

Further supporting your post.

Stains, Newcastle (pre Saudis) and Palarse, also not big spenders, almost always finish higher than the Albion.

Mrs DiS, the Saints STH came home tonight muttering “f***ing cheating bar stewards”, on the basis that the game was postponed because of COVID, and both goals were scored by players who were not playing for them at the time of the original fixture, and a certain Mr Dan Burn provided one of the assists….. and he was playing for us back then.

Yeah, fair point. All have much more experience as clubs in the PL than us though - not sure how much of a difference that makes but perhaps a little. Wasn't much in it between the clubs you mentioned last year really though.

Not saying we couldn't be doing better, it's very frustrating that we've completely dropped off results wise, but I doubt too many are surprised really.

It's a tough ask to finish lower than the Albion and stay in the division.
