Mr Bates vs The Post Office is on ITV on NYD. If you haven’t been following the story behind the largest miscarriage of justice in modern Britain, watch this - it’s the testimony from one of the subpostmasters caught up in the scandal. It features in a book written by Nick Wallis (ex BBC Sussex journalist).

Yeah, followed it for years now. Still can’t believe the compensation hasn’t been resolved. The human impact statements in the Inquiry have been awful. The victims were left with nothing and you can feel their anger rising towards those what put them in that position.

Lowest tender, system not fit for purpose, PO privately prosecuted people, ethically profiled people using antiquated terminology and withheld evidence. Just wrong.

Computer Weekly did a good job as well, casting doubt on the Horizon software. Basically, no software can ever be proven to be bug-free, and there was ample evidence that the majority of problems were with the system, and not the users. The Post Office has knowingly acted in an outrageous manner all along.

HMRC are now targeting those who have received compensation and taking huge chunks out of the compensation money. Bah, humbug

Right bunch of bastards. They KNEW the data was faulty but pressed on anyway to avoid lawsuits and scandal, leading to innocent people’s lives being ruined. People the higher ups KNEW to be innocent.

Dreadful scandal, truly shocking this could happen for so long. Disgusting.

Really upsetting story this one, genuinely angry.

as i read this is misinformation based on how HMRC treats interest on compensation payments. the inital compensation is tax free, interest on it after being delayed is taxable. something similar with the blood transfer compenstion, and there's been tax changes to correct since.

But as ever, a big company (post office/government) has paid out very little and no one has been found responsible. Someone should have been locked up but instead innocent post masters were put away instead.
Lives destroyed. And it was clear it was all bollocks years ago. Time to pay.

A friend of a friend of ours (PO person) was so stressed about the whole thing, they admitted their guilt and paid the time
rather than try to fight it. That is a f**** disgraceful situation.

700+ people in that situation. I think is abhorrent that these victims are still financially worse off, some have suffered ill health , some have died, some have committed suicide.
