Pompey swoop for Rams hitman - Pompey Past - The News

Pompey have announced the signing of Scotland international Chris Maguire from Derby.

The 23-year-old striker has penned a one-month deal and will go straight into the Blues’ squad for tomorrow’s trip to Brighton.

His arrival ends Michael Appleton’s week-long bid to replace Liam Lawrence, who moved on loan to Cardiff City last Friday.

Maguire arrived at Pride Park from Aberdeen in the summer.

He scored in Derby’s 3-1 home triumph over Pompey back in October.

The young hitman was awarded his first full Scotland cap against Northern Ireland in February 2011.

Presumably they've laid off a few more tea-ladys or laundry staff.
I'm at a bit of a loss, to be honest.

What goes around comes around....They will get there due come uppence sooner or later..... The club is shit, the city is shit and it's well overdue that they should disappear from football IMHO!

Presumably with it being outside the transfer window and him coming from another club, it's a loan?
Maybe Derby have agreed to keep paying all his wages?

I can't believe it.

They really need to adopt the Millwall theme tune.

AFC Portsmouth has a nice ring to it ,please make it happen.

Unbelievable.

How about using the money to pay back a creditor or 2?

Maybe even pay Watford some of the 1.9 million they are owed? Perhaps Watford might like to use the money to afford a loan signing of their own.

Administrators don't tend to spend money so probably a free loan? It's not good but some people are going way overboard.

The average Portsmouth fan has absolutely no control over their club. In the same way as we didn't in our dark days. So banter is good but to hope they go out of business is frankly disgusting.

Not sure why everyone's going mental and talking about paying creditors instead. They're not paying for his wages so what's the issue? May not be fantastic to see it happen but hardly worth getting worked up about and calling them cheats over this incident alone. Everything else yes, but this? Not so sure...

Apparently he was 6th choice striker at Derby - hardly a replacement for the overpaid Lawrence. 40+ clubs have gone into admin in the past 15 years or so, many of them more than once. All were living beyond their means, not quite sure why the extreme vitriol towards Pompey from some. Football finances in general urgently need looking into, Coventry, Forest and others are on a knife edge too. It's a mess.
