player contracts that are up in the summer

several of the older players contracts are up in the summer heres my take on it

guy butters . his all depends on if we go up and how the youth players progress

dean blackwell . would have done a job this season but injury situation and age i personally would say thanks but no thanks

simon rodgers . renew it

robbie pethick . sorry biased here see you

not to sure about other players but i also think david lee and geoff pitcher are out of contract

time for a real could clear out of the reserve team to free up funds for new faces so mcghee can really stamp his mark on the team

Butters is playing really well now....he's looked more solid than Cullip in recent games.

Agree we need a clear out and the wages spent on new free/out of contract players. Obviously McGhee has a plan and it all depends on where we are for next season, or indeed if he's still here

Butters has been oneof our most consistent players this season.

To talk of not re newing his contract is ridiculous regardless of whether we go up or not.

Butters has been great this season, although he is getting on a bit. Should renew his contract though

butters is having a great season but hes 34 and imho i think some of the youth defenders coming through could do just as good a job i.e hinslewood ,el abd

Regarding Butters, also is he going to willing to take a fairly drastic pay cut. I am sure he is the highest paid player (he had a clause saying he had to be on the same wage as the highest earner, allegedly) and there is no way a new deal will allow him the same luxury.

My opinion is release the following:

Pitcher, Lee, Virgo (if he's not going to play); Hammond.

Offer new contracts to:

Butters (with a pay cut)
Rodger (a must when he comes back from injury)
Blackwell on a month-to-month deal until he proves fitness
Pethick (if Blackwell is released) - give him a year as cover in central defence
Oatway (if only for the spirit he engenders and his bite in midfield)

Not sure about:

Piercy
Watson
Mayo
Marney

Oatway, Watson and Mayo you are stuck with for a while yet. Knight gave them all longish deals at the beginning of last season.
