Passed. Saw him at We Out There very recently. Big loss but on borrowed time clearly. His son was fantastic, the legend lives on

Absolute genius saxophonist. I saw him at one of Russ Dewbury’s Jazz Bops in the 90s. He was mesmerising.

I was too stupid or skint to take the opportunity to see various jazz legends - Ornette Coleman, and Sander's mentor Sun Ra come to mind - but I was lucky enough to see Pharoah perform a couple of decades ago, and it was a fantastic show. Throughout his career he was capable of the most abrasive, bracing blowing (as a young gun with Coltrane's group), and of gorgeous cosmic jazz, including with Alice Coltrane. Promises, his collaboration with Floating Points, and the LSO, from last year, is transporting. I shall be listening to it, and many other PS recordings over the next few days.

Thanks Pharoah

Saw him at Ronnie Scott's a couple of times, a venue that was perfect for him. One of the great names of jazz. RIP
