Listening to the cricket show on Five Live this evening they were talking about Cricket Australia finding a new sponsorship idea – armpit badges for umpires. The idea is, apparently, that every time the umpire raises his (or her) arms to signal a six the advertisement would be displayed. Unsurprisingly, the first sponsor is a deodorant maker.

But might this be an idea for goalkeepers? They, after all, raise their arms above their heads pretty often. Maybe on a sort of ‘pay per view’ basis? There are of course plenty of other players out there who spend quite a large part of the game with their arms above their heads appealing for something. Plenty of managers too…

I suspect advertisers would get more value for money from adverts on the soles of Grealish or Wilf's boots - the amount of time they spend on the floor apparently poleaxed
