My son has been doing this for three or so years now, and had the pleasure of racing with Shanaze Read at the end of last year. Not too sure how many other sports there are where you get the chance to compete against olympians/world champions at a normal "club" meet.

bought a nice racing BMX when I moved back to Brighton in 2007 (aged 22, the Olympics wasn't a complete impossibility!!), and was gutted to discover it gone. Then the BMX got stolen outside my flat.

So some toerag petty thief has deprived Team GB of a gold medal? Damn them all.

Why the baggy clothes? They must act like sails slowing them down. Seems odd when the riders are split by such small margins. That and the HUGE number on the front of the bike does not look very aerodynamic!?

They're deliberately excluding the use of lycra used in track and road events to keep BMX "pure" and connected with it's roots
