good guess, all those folks coming down the hill not up.
I have lived near there for 14 years now, and never ever seen it so busy, but more folks drive now I guess.

Bit of a long shot, has anyone got any old postcards/photos of the Arcadia Cinema? My paternal grandfather was the organist/pianist there in the 1930s. He also used to play for the ice skaters at the Dome if anyone has photos of that from a similar time. Thank you!

Just had a look through the excellent book, "Brighton and Hove Cinemas" by Allen Eyles which covers the extensive amount of such places in the area over the years and whilst it very briefly mentions it, there are presumably no pictures of it known, as most places are shown, even the really obscure very early picture palaces.

I started using buses from late 60s and can't ever recall a 4?

Was running in the late 40’s and early 50’s if I recall correctly

Difficult to date, but it's before 1939 when the motor buses were introduced on the trolley route, but looks post 20s. I'd go for about 1935.

My next-door neighbour from early 70s owned an electrical shop in Portland Road - but I can't remember what it was called.

No.4 ran from Southwick Green to Rottingdean in the 50's. Was a favourite trip when I was a child. Usually caught the no.2 back to Southwick, which came through Woodingdean (and still does), whereas no 4 travelled along cliff top from Brighton.

I think I've mentioned this before, but back in the late 60's my Dad would take us to this spot to watch the lorries coming down Mill Road and having to turn around because they wouldn't fit under the low bridge.
