Brighton & Hove Albion celebrated success at the Stadium Business Awards, after winning the Safety and Security Award at last night’s ceremony at the RAF Museum in London.

Albion competed with different companies from around the world for the prestigious award, with likes of Polish club, Lech Poznan and Secure Events & Assets Pty Ltd’s ‘Staff & Management’ from Australia in contention for the prize.
*
The judging panel commented on Albion’s success, “A fantastic stadium with a fantastic team devoted to the comfort, safety and security of spectators.”Events Safety Officer, Chris Baker, was joined at the awards ceremony by Lisa Murray (steward co-ordinator), Paul Jefferies (tunnel security team supervisor), Mike Hollway (steward trainer and assessor), David Jones (Finance Director) and Ady Limmer (stand manager/deputy safety officer).
*
Baker was thrilled to win the award on behalf of the club and believes it is a testament to everyone’s continuous hard work ensuring that supporters have the best possible matchday experience.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “For us even to make the shortlist of six companies was fantastic when you consider it’s a worldwide event.*
*
“It’s a credit to the commitment and the fantastic team ethic we’ve got in all our stewards, who are all willing to learn and follow our Team Brighton ethos.
*
“We show that we value all of our customers and reflect this in the way we treat them. We’re very welcoming to all supporters and I believe our stewards are more like theatre ushers. They are often referred to as the best in the league by opposition fans.”
*
The event safety officer also paid tribute to Lisa Murray for her role in overseeing 500 staff at the club to ensure the club continues to operate as effectively as possible.
*
“I dedicated the award in my speech to Lisa.
*
“It’s no mean feat looking after 500 staff. We get such great support from Jo Stephens in HR and Mike Hollway for training, but the co-ordinating of all the staffing levels for matchdays and events is down to Lisa.
*
“She works tirelessly and works well beyond her hours to make sure we’re effective and operate properly.”
*
Albion last achieved success in the Stadium Business Awards in 2012 after winning the best new venue prize, but Baker admits that this honour eclipses that achievement.
*
“In 2012 we won the best new venue prize and whilst that was a thrilling award to get, it was a new stadium, all the systems were new and in many ways it easier to set up something new and get an award.
*
“It is much harder to then maintaining and improving on something, which we have done year after year.
*
“So we think this is a real a feather in our cap and a great achievement for the football club.”
