Brighton & Hove Albion scored their fastest goal for six years last night as they claimed their first league win since August with a 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic.

Gary Gardner’s goal on 54 seconds was enough to give Sami Hyypia’s men the three points at the Amex, and was the quickest Seagulls strike since Glenn Murray scored after 48 seconds during the 3-3 draw with Cheltenham Town at Withdean in 2008.

The starting line-up was the youngest for a league game since the club’s last game at Withdean against Huddersfield in April 2011, with the average age just 24 years and 303 days.
