San Marino, genuine question here, their standard, are they like league 1, league 2, non league...? Just trying to get a comparison ie its like England playing a non league side? Just wondered....

Nobody even cheering the goals. I guess it's just a pleasant day out for most.

Think Manchester United away to Whitehawk in an FA Cup tie. United reticent about playing their best side on a poor pitch, but conscious that they don't want to look silly.

San Marino has roughly the population of Burgess Hill. So whatever level a team made of people born in Burgess Hill would play at. In reality, Conference South or Southern Premier League I would guess.

Given up on the ITV Wayne Rooney tug-a-thon. We are atypical Roy Hodgson side, very dour, and no real end product. And all the while we waste our time trying to convince ourselves that James Milner is an England first choice, we'll only ever be a second tier side. We have bags of potential in the U21s - Duncan Watmore, Alex McCarthy, Liam Moore all look to be quality. The FA should be taking steps with PL (and FL) clubd to ensure that players like that get the chance to shine.

Where's that strangely girlie San Marino chanting suddenly started from? Have they just opened the family stand and let the local schoolkids in for free?

FIFA ranking of 193 out of 208 countries - says it all really

In terms of lazy football cliches, describing Stones as 'elegant' is right up there now

Hodgson is the perfect England manager for Tory times. If he was a tattoo he'd be a sleeve, probably of a montage of dishwashers. Nothing about this period will ever be remembered.

This. The really frustrating thing is we all know when we get to the Euros we are going to massively underperform, with either a group failure or an abject QF performance against a 'lesser' team. Meh.
