Evening all...My car has got a flat type and needs changing, I've got the new wheel ect. However i've gone to change it and cant get the wheel nuts off as they need some sort of specialist tool to remove (apparently its got two grooves on the side to undo the wheel nut). This is where my limited knowledge of what is wrong isn't going to help...

If its any use i've got a 1997 Rover 214 with alloys (sorry I cant be abit more specific). Anyone have any idea what I need? or equally if someone could come and change it for me... I'm more than happy to supply them with enough for a few beers.

My mechanic flatmate says you need a locking wheel nut tool....and if you do and you dont have the one that fits your specific wheel nuts you could be screwed....as they are different for each type....its a security thing....have a look in the glove box of in the well where the spare wheel was and pray that the last owner left it in there for you.

If not there may be another answer (aspecial tool) but its a bit long winded so let me know if this doesnt work.

The "special tool" has an inverted threaded socket, that first cuts into the nut, then it has a grip that will turn the nut. A self-respecting car mechanic should own this device, and very few other people will.

I hope this has been of help

Had a pretty good look round and sadly it seems the last owner didn't leave it with the car.

Considering the age and make I'd be surprised if its not a widely copied "locking" wheel nut, Halfrauds may have them in stock (along with ten types of "security" radio release keys, etc).

Otherwise, as NMH says, any decent mechanic and most tyre places will have the ability to cut in to the nuts to remove them. Kwik Fit probablt won't....
