It looks like the account of AZ Gull, who had some enhanced privileges due to his work on the NSC wiki, was used to send emails.

I suspect his account could have been compromised. I'll continue looking...

Yeah I got one too Bozza but it was addressed to 'Sheikh Gull of Abu Dhabi' which was the term (only) you used when you approached me for shirt sponsorship or something like that a while back. Hmmn

Got it too! I am not an expert, if you look at the recent new members, for at least the last couple of days, there are a lot of user names registered that look as if they have been generated as series of figures and numbers. I was going to point it out yesterday, coupled with this email, makes it appear a problem.

The two aren't related. NSC receives a large number of attempted spammy members - very few actually make it live.

This spam email was caused by AZ Gull's account being compromised. He had enhanced privileges due to his work on the NSC wiki. Whoever compromised his account knew exactly what they were doing by then using the account to generate emails.

Isn't that Brighton question when you register there to stop auto-accounts but i do see what you mean:

fqkhidkajo ‎ jameslike08h ‎ kjykuk656 ‎ Quean268x0 ‎ roblann8 ‎ Seanae7d40 ‎ Shift3g6es ‎ Xoel45c27

In light of Bozza's info above...I sense a full investigation to hunt down and punish the culprit. I can do the surveillance if needed.

The question is intended to hinder spammy registrations, yes, but I assume that eventually the way to register on a given site gets known by bad guys so they fly straight through. None of those accounts ever gets activated however so no harm is done. Regardless, I'm going to change this when I upgrade vBulletin to make it harder again.

Perhaps the question should be "Which Albion player is currently the most hated by NSC trolls?". That way, the answer will change every few games, and genuine newbies will just have to lurk on NSC for a bit to find out.
