I too was impressed by Camilla Cavendish and have been in the past.

She did PPE at Oxford the same time as David Cameron so she's clearly a very smart lady, she went to Harvard and has won prizes for campaigning journalism around child protection issues.

Let's just hope she doesn't get too close to Murdoch.

She deflected it away from Nurse's pay rises unfortunately - but made very good points on care workers.

I thought Farage done well. Brand looked out of his depth. The crazy purple haired women done the left no favours with her shouts of "racists". Farage spoke of 'controlled immigration', as did the two female MP's, yet Farage gets called a racist scumbag. Sums up lefties, i'd expect that from a tool like Daveinprague.

The interesting part of the debate was that both the MP's spoke about the benefits of immigration, our economic need for it and for any caps to be carefully balanced to assess that need against the burden on the state. Both spoke about the mistakes of the past, the present even, and what their parties will do next if in government.

Farage just wants to stop immigration because he doesn't like anymore foreigners coming in as it's 'crowded' and a burden on services. He really didn't expand any further than that soundbite. He was left stumped by the point that many of those services are backed and delivered by the exceptional skill sets of many immigrants contributing to the economy, society and their communities. I thought Farage was left behind by both the other MP's who backed up their policy arguments with certain specifics giving the debate some credit on the night.

Brand is an intelligent guy and he realised that the journalist was an intellectual heavy weight who knew her stuff, and that without the support of the rest of the panel, the Farage-Baiting he probably prepared for wasn't going to happen.

What are you talking about, Mr local politician? Is this your party's comments or yours alone.

Anyway what " stifle debate"? I merely suggested that the contributer suggested that everyone in Canterbury prison was an immigrant. It would be interesting to see how many actually were....but as someone posted above, Canterbury prison is actually closed, therefore undermining her points anyway.

Where have I " stifled debate"?

What a strange person you are. Are you going to come out on here and tell us all what party you represent on the council so we can see where you are coming from and what agenda you have?

The only prejudice I have is against people who do not repair pitch marks on the greens, especially at this time of the year when the ground is boggy and the divots cause deviation in the roll of the ball.

Total drivel .....

You tried to imply that 'The anti immigration woman' was ignorant and undermine anyones view of the criminal consequence of immigration.

Comedian...really? So unfunny...he is a champagne socialist who throws himself about as a leader for the disadvantaged..he accuses Nigel of being against the disabled...show or write one instance where or when he has disparaged the disabled...he couldn't answer then and you cannot show when he UKIP ever did.
This is the 'comedian' who lives in a million pound dwelling and pays his rent to an offshore company for tax avoidance..two faced squeaky voiced so called funny man...never forgive him for what he did to 'Manuel'. or pretending to be a working mans hero

Then you clearly only heard what you wanted to hear. Farage on a number of occasions said he wanted controlled immigration.

There is only one mainstream party that is constitutionally configured to represent the interests of the British working class. Because that party abandoned the British working class in the last 20 years a significant proportion of the British working class have turned (or are considering turning) to a political party led by an ex city trader with a private school background.

The fact that Farage is able to appeal to the British working class given his background is merely symptomatic of the decline of the Labour Party. People like you need to start playing the ball and not the man..........shrill hysteria and screaming racist is not working yet, not now the other parties dancing to the tune of UKIPs border control beat.

Your final point is a case in point.........the people that support UKIP don't give a **** about the EU Parliament and what UKIP do in it. Similarly, do you honestly think those who vote in Sinn Feinn MPs care that they don't go to the HoP? How do you feel about these MPs trousering British taxpayers money and not representing their constituents?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...inn-Fein-claimed-500000-for-second-homes.html

I think you have a lot to learn about politics..........

Thank you for proving my point.

Mind you, I did not say he was racist, but that's for another time. I did point out that although he says he is a man of the people and claims to be the only voice for the disenfranchised people of middle England he is in fact no better than any of the other parties. In fact he is quite probably worse.
UKIP is run as Nigel wants because it is Nigel's party and Nigel's ball and woe betide anyone who does not share his policy's. This means only one person is ever trusted enough to represent the " Party " and that's Nigel.

What happened to Carswell and Reckless ? As serving MP's with genuine,if limited, experience in Parliament surely they could do the rounds on tv and radio putting the UKIP ( Nigel's ) point of view? But no, they are wheeled out for the big photo opportunities and then when Nigel has had the soundbites and media coverage he wants they are put back in their boxes.

So what we have is a man who has targeted Europe as being the cause of all our woes who has pulled together the Eurosceptic Tories, what remained of the Referendum Party and people who feel that their party has deserted them in to a big, straining, rubberband ball of contradictions lashed together and held together by Nigel, the ringmaster and CEO of the company.
It's laughable really and in a strange way I would love to see them get in to power as it would be hilarious ,albeit a financial tragedy for the man in the street but great car crash politics. The only trouble with that would be that Nigel would very quickly be out of a job.

This is a good summary. I was thinking that I'd watched a different programme to everyone else because I thought that both the MPs were rather good: they both answered the questions and got their points across rather well. I enjoyed Penny Mordaunt's put-down of Brand when he shouted over her.

I thought Mary Creagh was particularly impressive - it was noticeable that the Telegraph (no lover of the Labour party) singled her out as the star of the show. I'm embarrassed to say that I'd never heard of her before but will keep an eye on her.

Apart from that. I though Farage was his usual, evasive, slippery self and Brand was dreadful - seemed way out his depth.

That is what the other two also said with differing angles, but gave their reasons for that based on what the country and economy needed, making points such as 35% of the NHS is supported by immigrant employees. You are completely right, Farage did say on a number of occasions he wanted controlled immigration, but didn't once expand on what that meant other than saying the country is crowded. It was an empty soundbite if that argument is based simply on a judgment of what constitutes crowded.

Brand is a one-trick pony. He has the same answer for every question…and he is inarticulate with it.

The 2 women were f#cking dreadful. No wonder no one likes the main parties if that is who represent them, awful just awful

Probably indicative of the fact that in their desperation to swell the number of women in parliament and in government the two main parties promote some ladies well beyond their abilities.

I liked it when Nigel Farage praised the high voter turnout in Australia.

Voting is compulsory in Australia.

You couldn't make it up could you, typical of the stuff he says and then has to retract the day after. Was really surprised there was no breast feeding questions on breast feeding or making hand guns legal, he loves these topics !!!
The strange thing is you only have to look at the comments on these boards to realise he has stirred the 'socially acceptable side' of the far right and also getting traditionally working class voters to vote for them. UKIP voters are more than twice as likely as the general population to be over 60 (48% as opposed to 28%). As well as being older they probably not especially well off, probably not university educated, slightly more likely than average to be a working-class man, probably owning his home outright and living on a pension and some modest savings. This while a generalisation does go some way to explaining why they feel scared an vunerable especially in areas such as Canterbury where QT was last night.

No he don't, how many times has it got to be explained to dullards like you that he wants CONTROLLED IMMIGRATION.

I found the Tory as dull as dishwater and often her answers drifted off topic without any sense to why. The Labour MP put up a good fight but on this particular question was rather evasive. It was only under pressure she admitted Labour got it wrong and yes, she rightly pointed out that the NHS survives on immigrant labour. What she didn't do was suggest Labour were really in favour of controlled immigration.

Brand became an irritant after a while - using every question to turn his answer to bashing the bankers and UKIP. Yet he slams politicians for not answering the question. Thankfully the cool, calm and collected lady from the Time put him in his place.

cunning fergus;6700 ...[QUOTE said:
: Of course given that we are also dishing out 250,000 British Passports a year to God knows who, the number of "immigrants" is undoubtedly higher.

The whole immigration debate is one thing, but even though we seem to welcome every immigrant in the world into this country do we really HAVE to give out any more British passports? I always squirm when they talk about .... this British lad who's gone to fight for ISIS ... then they show a photo .... HE'S NOT BRITISH. He may have been mistakenly given a British passport BUT HE'S NOT BRITISH.

The more I think about this the more I think you are spot on here.

I think if UKIP were saying "white people can come in but black people can't", or "French people can come in but Germans can't", that's racist. Saying "no one can come in unless we need them", how is that racist? Maybe I am not up to the times and again the term racist has morphed into something completely new again?

I also didn't understand the woman's comment that men talk over women on these shows and they don't get heard, making out it's a sort of sexist thing. Everyone talks over everyone else on that show, and others of this nature. It's got nothing to do with her being a woman and indeed, the labour woman later was shouting over the tory woman and wasn't pulled up for it?
