A bit embarrassing for West Ham after being given trust to occupy our National Stadium to then screw the tax payer who gave them the opportunity.

Should be but i suspect the owners dont know the meaning of the word. I am not happy subsidising WHFC so lets see where this goes

Regardless of the rights and wrong, I find the HMRC statement odd.

"This criminal investigation sends a clear message that, whoever you are, if you commit tax fraud you can expect to face the consequences."

Reads as if they've already decided the people they're 'investigating' have committed tax fraud, when surely that's something for a court to determine.

Secret payments made to players and agents is the focus of a tax fraud investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), say French authorities.

It is suspected that serious tax fraud was committed during the transfer of players between French and Premier League clubs.

The wheels of tax investigations turn slowly - so any sporting implications resulting from these arrests and raids may not be known for some time.

It would appear, on face value, that Premier League points and status for both West Ham United and newly promoted Newcastle United are safe for now.

However this "on-going" investigation risks creating instability and uncertainty for both clubs at a time when they both, for different reasons, need it the most. HMRC investigations of this scale are costly and only undertaken in the most serious of circumstances. This isn't going away anytime soon.

my landlord is a Newcastle man, rang me last night to discus the lease and rent, he has taken it off the letting agents (Oakfield :wanker:) and is doing the job himself which is very much OK so we all save money he really is not a bad guy.
anyway he got round to talking about the football and he was not a happy bunny, happy that we are both going up, but not happy with yesterday's events.
last message to him was do not come round on Saturday evening

Former Newcastle midfielder Sylvain Marveaux was among four people arrested in France over the £5million football tax probe engulfing British clubs, it has been reported.

Sources close to the investigation that also involves West Ham said the 31-year-old was “answering questions”.

Marveaux signed a five-year deal with Newcastle in June 2011 and was finally released in May 2016.

During this period Marveaux was loaned to French side Guingamp, and is now with League 1 side Lorient.

In its coverage of those arrested in France, today’s Le Parisien newspaper writes: “According to our information, they are three players’ agents, as well as Lorient’s attacking midfielder Sylvain Marveaux, the former Newcastle player.”

Now which former Crystal Palace manager signed Marveaux for Newcastle, and also previously managed West Ham?

Can only assume Marveaux has been arrested for impersonating a footballer.

To be honest, I'm afraid old Pards won't be involved. He had little to do with the overwhelming majority of transfers.
