New Zebra Crossing's flawed?

we have a new Zebra Crossing installed on Carden Ave opposite Sainsbury in Brighton in the last few weeks and already had at least 3 accidents there, yes maybe because they're new and drivers are not fully aware they are there, but what is not helping is the poles are now fluorescent and with the poles being on the side of the on coming traffic any one standing in dark clothes at night next to the fluorescent poles can not been seen until they stand out on the crossing which causes drivers to suddenly brake causing collision, in my opinion these pole's need to be reversed onto the opposite sides of the crossing . its only a matter of time before someone seriously is injured . your thoughts/views ?

As they are now.

Unfortunately I can not find updated pictures of the fluorescent poles.

My opinion? Take more care whe you are crossing the road and never assume a car is going to stop just because you are at crossing?

Drivers should be more aware of everything around, and in front, of them. Probably a bit more care on both sides required...

They are being placed that way in anticipation of the EU directive that the UK should change to driving on the right.

Wouldn't they be obscured EVERY time if you put them there??

Not if they put the fluorescent poles in place as per 2nd photo.

The problem now is the poles are slightly larger and being fluorescent that glows at night which hides any one who stands directly next to the fluorescent poles.

There is nothing wrong with the crossing. If rear end collisions are occurring that is because the driver behind is too close, not paying attention or going too fast. If any kind of hazard presents itself causing a driver to brake hard then the car behind should be at a sufficient distanceto react and stop without stuffing into the rear of the car in front. If the poles are moved it won't make a blind bit of difference as people may stand on the other side of them giving you exactly the same scenario. Any collisions here are likely to be caused by too many people using the same road every day and cruising along on autopilot and finding that there is now a crossing there, its the drivers at fault here not the crossing or pedestrians.
