Managua isn't great, Granada is pretty nice but nothing compares to Esteli!

I'd like to pay it a visit some time. I've wanted to go back to the country since the day I got back. Still a bit dangerous in parts, though, I suspect. One of our trips in the RAAN was cancelled because they couldn't guarantee our safety. Nearly got mugged in Managua right outside the presidential palace, too.

Well compared to UK i wouldnt call it safe but in relation to other central american countries it is by far the safest. Well the presidents are usually the biggest thiefs of all in nicaragua.
Yeah you should def. visit it again, i would recommend it to anyone.

I know what you mean. We were told while we were there that the president was earning $19000 a month, including pay for being a former vice-president. Apparently he said he needed that much because his wife lost so much at the casino. Having just met with the protesting banana plantation workers who had walked down from the north, I can't say I had much sympathy for him.
