Fleet-heeled right winger who fought hard to earn himself a professional contract at The Valley. He made his second-string debut against Portsmouth in February 2004 and went on to become a regular in the Charlton reserve side. Considered a potential star for the future.

Would rather we got a left back but anyone that strengthens our squad has to be good.

Ok, well done for signing a player, Wilkins. You are doing this with alarming regularity, and showing McGhee up for the transfer market excuse that he was more by every day. BUT, why have we signed a right-winger? For me, Bowditch HAS to be in the team, so if we are not going to introduce him on the right, then that means Revell or Robinson are going to be dropped. Very harsh, but there's no way Bowditch is here to sit on the bench for another month.

He's got injured.

Like Myles Weston, rapid winger John produced a mammoth effort to win himself a professional deal at the club.

Under the same kind of pressure as Weston following the scrapping of the third-year scholar option in 2006/07, the fleet-heeled right flanker needed a big 2005/06 season and just about managed it.

Though John was in and around the reserve set-up from the beginning of the campaign he never found his best form and, by his own admission, his future at the club was in the balance.

He notched his first ever second-string strike in a demoralising 6-1 defeat at West Ham United in November 2005 and, like a number of the club's other young players who featured in that game, saw his form take a tumble.

In the new year, however, it was John's former U18 coach Mark Robson who reinstated him into the reserve-team ranks following the departure of ex-second XI boss Glynn Snodin in March, and the youngster suddenly rediscovered his form.

With mesmerising trickery backed up by a devastating burst of acceleration, John can be a defender's nightmare, and he was one of a quartet of schoolboys to play for the U17s, U19s and reserves in the 2003/04 season.

He made his second-string debut against Portsmouth in February 2004, coming on as a second-half substitute, and he followed that up with another sub appearance against Ipswich Town the following week.

The following season he played 14 times for the reserves, scoring three goals, and the former Coulsdon High School pupil improved on that tally with 16 games in 2005/06.

Oh. I didn't know Bowditch was injured. How long for?

He picked up a groin strain in training this week, don't know how long he'll be out for though.
