An interesting fact;
To be “fired” comes from early builders/tradesmen who would throw you off site and burn all your tools if you did something so dangerous or stupid, you couldn’t be trusted to work with tools.
To be “sacked”‘ came from if you messed up but not dangerously, they’d put your tools in a sack, hand it to you and throw you off site.

Even as a born and bred southerner who is obviously wary of anyone north of the old Shoreham road
