Paul Barber to write to Newcastle.

Sorry if fixtures..........

The Mag reports that Paul Barber is going to write to Newcastle, and thank them for their support, surrounding the incident where Glenn Murray was knocked unconscious and swallowed his tongue.

Classy guy :thumbsup::clap:

Yes - but as I posted earlier, strolling on when all the players are that agitated simply doesn't create a very good impression. Whether it was useful or not. However, in some circumstances, the quicker they get there, the quicker the injured gets off the pitch into an ambulance, and the quicker they get to hospital. It all depends on what the issue is, and none of us in the ground knew.

To be fair the medical staff treating him and the club doctor (Newcastles if ours isn't there) are highly enough trained to stabilise a player there and then. Rushing a player to an ambulance and then rushing them to hospital, which may be a considerable distance away isn't necessarily the best option.

The problem with tilting the head back when someone has just fallen awkwardly, is that they may have done damage to their neck when they fell.

Indeed, but a blocked airway is life threatening and must be the priority over possible neck or spine injury.
That said, moving the chin up enough to clear the tongue from the airway for someone already lying on their back is not placing a great deal of pressure on the spinal cord - moving the head sideways [twisting], on the other hand, is what can create life-changing additional injuries - a-la Christopher Reeve lying on the ground with a broken neck and twisting his head to see where is horse had gone - bad move. Just the same as moving someone into the recovery position when there's no need ....

Exactly what you shouldn't do! Exactly the reason people don't want to use the term swallowing your tongue because people end up putting things like spoons in people's mouths. Honestly, putting a metal object into someone's mouth while they're having a fit or siezure, madness really.

Anyone witnessing someone having a fit and someone else is trying to put something in their mouth, PLEASE STOP THEM! Best thing you can do is roll them onto their side, get a cushion for their head, and make sure they're safe and can't injure themselves on anything nearby, don't try to stop or restrain them either.

Years ago they advocated using a safety pin to pierce the tongue and pin it through the lip to stop it falling back. That was when 1st Aid courses were 5 days long ending in a practical exams resembling a hospital drama with actors. It went far too far with you expected to diagnose all manner of illness/injuries and patch the patient up.

I am laughing at us using something to gain information about how Murray is that mentions swallowing a tongue!

"Swallowing your tongue" is a phrase often used as a way of describing when the tongue blocks someones airway after concussion. I'm sure you know that.
Thats what happened to Murray and how it was described by someone (not their medical staff) who works for the Albion to convey the seriousness of his injury. Yes its an outdated phrase , and can have unintended consequences but not sure why its LOL or something to laugh about but each to their own.

Looking at the way Murray landed, there would've been minimal chance of that happening. He ended up on his front/side. Gravity would be pulling the tongue away from his airway.

Sure but that’s what the club are saying .
