[Misc] Moving out of a house - fixtures and fittings

When we moved, the previous owner took the gas fire with him, but very kindly left us the hole in the wall where it had been.

If it’s a fitting and another tv could be attached to it then I would leave it up . The alternative is take it down but you would be expected as you rightly said to fill in any holes .

This thread reminds me of a story I heard from a London agent who sold a property belong to Sting a few years ago , the house sold for £6.5 million in London and when the new owners moved in they found all the lightbulbs had been taken from every room . Reliably told that Trudy told her moving company to take them all down and the removal company were too scared to question her .

That takes mean to another level !

When we moved in after hours of waiting for the previous owners to move out, it was pitch dark, and they had taken all the light bulbs. My youngest was 6 months old at the time. It was mid December and they also left all the loft windows open, we wondered why it was so cold. In the daylight the next morning I found they had not cleared all their belongings in all the rooms!
I lagged the loft the next day then had a phone call from the previous owner asking if he could come back and get the rest of his belongings. Also he would have to get in the loft to get some items.
When he came round I had great pleasure in presenting him with a box of porn mags, assorted dildos and love letters that I found in the loft.

There is enough to do when moving out, why give yourself another job ?

Having moved out of our home of 17 years on Friday, I can echo this comment. Moving is exhausting.

I thought it was actually illegal to take things like light bulbs and fittings unless replaced by something workable in their place. It should also be on the f&f list submitted through the solicitor if you are going to change them.

I once bought a house from a couple who took all the light bulbs along with all the curtain rails and anything else they could remove, whilst leaving us some black sacks of rubbish to deal with.

I posted them the batteries from the door bell with a note that just said “You forgot something”.

So I see someone mid sale has had a piece on done on their wall by Banksy. Thats an interesting problem to have! Leave it up? Take it down? Sell as before?

If you take a Banksy down without his consent its worthless. Dont know what that will do the valuation of the property though.....

Im sure they wouldnt be worse off if they played it right. However if they arent interested, and selling a house is stressful enough, having street art slapped on the side of your property uninvited isnt obviously welcomed by these victims. Not sure why this artist is apparently exempted from the rules. Personally think his work is a bit tedious now. Im almost certainly in the minority

To be fair I'm taking the light bulbs when I go, spent a load of money changing them all for Hue ones so I'm not leaving those behind.

I did the same when we moved, Hue bulbs aren't cheap!

I thought it was only me who constantly had some moving-in problems related to the previous owners 2 years ago when I moved to the UK from Spain previous owners had taken even cheap wallpapers with them
