Was/is a strange one this. The club were looking for a LB/LWB, and when he arrived we all thought we were getting a LB/LWB. But when he actually arrives, no, he's right-footed, a RB/RWB who prefers to play in that position - turns out he had played a bit of LB/LWB, but that was to help out the team and not his preferred position.
Now it's not uncommon for full backs to make a good career specialising in playing on their 'wrong' side, so Karbownik being right footed didn't automatically mean he was no use to us. There must be some reason why the club is appearing to be handling him like a hot potato - but TBH it seems a bit of a mystery to me.
Not even really a right back I think. As I understand it he was a central midfielder for all his youth career until he got called up to Legias first team three years ago and their left back got injured and he got the chance there.
As for "handling him like a hot potato" they probably just saw he isnt quite ready yet. Olympiakos is not a bad club so it is encouraging he gets game time there.

Is he actually a LB now? Or will it turn out that he has a burning desire to play in goal next?
Yes it is his preferred position but I've read a few interviews with him recently and the "only wants to play in midfield" was apparently his agent saying not-so-true stuff in Polish media. As long as he gets to play, he is happy clappy, it seems.
Might have an outside chance to get into the Poland squad for the World Cup.

He made the 47 man preliminary squad named last week, very unlikely to make the 26 but he's on the radar of the manager which is good to see considering he's still only 21 years old.

The loan to Olympiacos came with an option to buy but they didn't take it up. In fact he made more appearances there for their reserves than he did the first team. I haven't seen any reports of an option on the move to Fortuna Düsseldorf so I assume he'll be back next summer with a year left on his contract. A chance to impress RDZ in pre-season before any decision is made I would expect.

Maybe.
I think it is pretty far-fetched to see him in a Brighton shirt again. But good performances for Fortuna could at least lead to a decent fee next summer.
Somewhere in between. The top teams would be fine in the Championship, the bottom half is more League One.

Why is it far fetched? He'll have a clean slate with a new manager in charge. He played two pre-season games against USG and Brentford before his move to Germany this summer so there is every expectation that RDZ would want to take a look at him
By next summer he'll have one year left on his contract and while performing well in Bundesliga 2 is nice, a contract extension based on that is difficult to see. So if there's an early bid - before pre-season - for him from eg a Bundesliga side, do you cash in or do you turn it down to wait to see how he does in the pre-season? The hypothetical bid may not come again and while doing well in BL2 is good, chances are always going to be quite big that it isn't enough to be deemed a PL level player. I could easily see such a scenario. Wouldn't mind seeing more from him but I just don't think it will happen.
