It is quite unusual that the club have come out specifically to say that no agreement has been reached. Normally if a transfer was in negotiation and some agent/Twitter reported it as done, the club would stay silent until it was completed a week or so later.

In fact the club very rarely comment on any transfer speculation at all. So why feel the need to give a statement here?

…. to make it clear to Chelsea that they won’t get Cucurella, until we have defensive cover in place or Colwill. Leaking stuff to football gossips won’t accelerate the process.

Tony Bloom gets railroaded by no one.

The club, and most importantly the chairman, is clearly VERY ****ed off with this whole saga. They're probably putting a very close shot across everyone's bows and saying STFU of **** Off.

Does make perfect sense. You’d imagine Albion’s figure & what we want to pay for Colwill are closely linked. If we’re left without a replacement, maybe Cucurella’s fee rises significantly or the move is off.. And keeping it ‘live’ might make Chelsea a bit more insistent that Colwill’s future lies elsewhere if he’s at all reluctant.

All the guessing is part of the ‘fun’ I suppose. Only thing that seems guaranteed is Cucurella’s not going to be a Brighton player much longer.

Yep. Although my guess would be the issue is less the fee and more the buyback clause. We famously don’t like those.

Tony Bloom tells Cucu where he can put his transfer request if he tries to **** him over.

Can you imagine this playing out with palace.
Pariah would have been beside himself, all week playing up to TalkSpite and SSN.

Mr Bloom/Barber eventually send out a few terse words which might as well be followed by a f*#k you emoji.

I just hope it,s because Tony is demanding Cucurobber pays back the 100,000.00 pounds he has been paid to sit on his arse in Spain for the last two weeks.

Tony Bloom :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

I read in this long thread that:
- he won’t go for as much as White, due to the English player premium
- the written transfer request will lower the price
- it’ll be £30m plus Colwill
- the move is all do with Cucu’s passion for Barca legend Guardiola, La Masia, Catalonia :lol::lol::lol::lol:

As the person who said something like that (I said "may" not "will") I will defend that bit - we won't know if it has or hasn't. Obviously everything is in chaos now, so just going with what was "known" when you posted this we accepted 52.5m. Maybe we wanted 55, but the bonus of 2.5m (may be a bit generous, but this is for illustrative purposes) being sacrificed allowed us to accept 52.5m. We won't know. The club won't come out and say 'yeah we wanted more, but thanks to Marc putting in the transfer request we accepted a little less'

Surely not...

Funny! What’s your problem with that may I ask?

If Chelsea pay £52.5M for Cucu, that is a good deal - could have been a bit higher, but for a want-away player it's a decent deal. If that's not what is happening it's no cause for rejoicing, let alone a 'Hehe'.

If that £52.5M is conditional on us paying an inflated price for a young Chelsea wannabee - even if he is a fairly promising one - with all the sort of caveats that Chelsea try to impose post Lamptey - buy back clauses, sell-on clauses. loan to buy bollocks, whatever - then the deal can start to look a bit shit. So, rejoicng with a 'Hehe' when the only snag is probably Chelsea playing very hard ball with making us pay over the odds isn't a god look, wouldn't you say.
