6 years is nowhere near long enough. It's not just what the driver did but the complete lack of any humanity in stopping to see if the person they hit was okay and then lying repeatedly about it afterwards and getting others to lie too. The government needs to take notice of the judge's words about inadequate sentencing rules.

Fair play to the police in not letting this one go and making sure that they got their man.

33 years old and had 47 previous convictions from 114 offences, when he gets out whats the odds he will be rehabilitated?

Today he refused to appear at Brighton Crown Court for his sentencing hearing.
McDermott, who has 47 previous convictions for 114 offences, was sentenced in his absence to four years for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and two and a half years for perverting the course of justice.
