Right, my laptop isn't exactly in the best state as it is (new one on the cards fairly soon hopefully) and I've managed to overcome a few problems with it lately.
However, I'm a bit stumped at the mo. Now, when I log on, all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer in the middle. You can hear that the laptop stops loading once the screen says 'welcome' after I've entered my password (on Vista). So basically, I have no start menu and taskbar, no background, no desktop items whatsoever etc etc.
The only reason I can type all of this is because i can still use some features. If I do CTRL + ALT + DEL and get the task manager up, i can use it to run new programs - like Safari which I'm using right now - but not everything will open.
For example, iTunes won't open at all, Internet Explorer just opens and does nothing (not even 'this page can't be displayed' malarkey) and I can't open the majority ofthings in Control Panel.
Anyone have any ideas at to what else I might be able to try to keep it up and running a bit longer? I tried System Restore the other day back to a place where it worked fine, but still no joy. I considered re-installing Vista but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas before doing that.
Cheers
