Excellent news regarding the signing, however, what should we make of the length of contract? Usually players sign on at least a three year deal, unless they have question marks over injury / age-related performance. If he has a great season for us this year, he will be allowed to talk to any other team whilst in his final season of the current contract and move on "on a Bosman", with us only receiving an amount decided upon by a tribunal since he is, and will be in two years, still under 23 (players aged 23+ can move to another club at the end of their contract for free, unless under 23, when a tribunal decides the fee; this latter clause is nullified if the player moves abroad - cf Julian Gray to Hannover 96 (Hangover 69)). Did Leon Knight's agent therefore insist upon a two year deal in order to use this season as a "shop window", or was it Dick Knight being cautious in case Leon goes off the boil (I can't see that happening), thus hedging his bets against loss of form / injury with regard to Leon's wages.
In any case, the solution is to offer Leon a good contract extension as soon as he notches 15 goal / is six months into this contract and still showing quality form. Otherwise, will will lose another great striker, potentially for little or no money.
Anyway, despite the bizarreness of the contract length, the guy is a legend!
