They obviously wouldnt have mentioned starting or not every week when selling the club to him I am not so sure either would get straight back in the side after their suspension as indeed they will now.

Not sure why it's assumed he'll be a failure. He's played for some pretty effective managers, so there's a chance that'll rub off on him. He's just as likely to be decent than anyone else - say what you like about him, but he was a leader. In the lower leagues that counts for something.
