No, it will be some task because most of the British public and electorate still have far too much common-sense to swallow the ridiculous ideas Corbyn and his gang would attempt to foist on us. Just listen to the rhetoric of Corbyn's deeply unpleasant supporters and it is clear Labour is now the nasty party.
It isn't the very rich who'd suffer if Corbyn was in Downing Street, most of them would disappear with their millions. It's the rest of us, none more so than the poorest, who would suffer once the effects of the left's policies kicked in.

yea, the great British public have got the sense to see just how nasty the tories are , joining the Labour party just to vote for someone who they think will be unelectable, just like the silly little schoolboys and girls they are, when in actual fact all they have done is motivate true socialists to join and rejoin the Labour party.
we have not had a true socialist government for a very long time and all the right wing press and tories will not stop the groundswell there is to socialism by using dirty tricks.
Corbyns deeply unpleasant supporters are only unpleasant because you do not agree with them, believe me there was nothing more unpleasant than thatchers government so much so that her own people got rid of her, and this lot we have now will go the same way.
I feel the same way about them as thatchers government .............physically sick

Of course there are those with extreme left views who can be as unpleasant as those with far-right views - but they are just the peripheral and largely irrelevant.

Generally those who are seduced by the likes of Corbyn and Sanders want a peaceful, fairer, environmentally friendly, progressive society - they are just regular working people, like you or me, who want to live in a better world and believe it is possible with the correct ideologies, policies and politicians. There is no smoke and mirrors with Corbyn - even those who are right-wing can see he is authentic and sincere... and that is partly why he is so popular.

If your greatest fear with socialism is that the super rich will pack up and leave, then you are openly admitting to living in a corporatocracy, and you may have a point - but if global democracy can band together and head in the right direction, where the aim is for the power to return the people from the corporations and its mega-rich shareholders, if they want to pack up and leave, then more power to them... because without us, the workers, they are nothing.

Communism died years ago so why does the far left want to go back in time ?

I adored Margaret Thatcher, Cameron isn't fit to lick her boots but credit to him for pulling off an unlikely victory in May.
I do agree with you about not using dirty tricks, it's completely unnecessary. Just tell the truth about Corbyn and his traitorous cronies and they will slump to an historic electoral defeat. Socialism is a failed system, capitalism works. I don't want the non-rich in this country to have to go through misery because silver-spoon lefties are allowed to put their fantasies into practice.

So in regards to your wife and her struggle to get a 50p donation - my leftist suggestions would include improved state funding, or greater economic equality to allow for increased charitable donations from working/middle class people.I like many others are convinced that the social darwinism, the dog-eat-dog culture, the rat race, the strongest flourish while the weakest perish, etc, is not good for anyone except those at the top. The example you gave exemplifies how ridiculous it all is, and how it could so easily be fixed if wealth were fairly distributed and/or with greater state support... currently we are experiencing the opposite - a smaller government with less support and greater economic disparity - I am equally convinced that many working/middle class right-wingers such as yourself will come to their senses and realise that this is not a good thing; things could and should be better for everyone.
It is down to Corbyn to convince the British public and the electorate of this over the next five years, but it will be some task with the relentless daily propaganda by the right-wing press.

Just when I thought that you might be looking at things with rather more realism, you come up with this. It is a village school with virtually no poverty, and the reason that these parents don't pay -always the same ones -has nothing to do with poverty, rather a refusal to cooperate when they see their chance to get out of it.
I always think that it is so ironic that someone like yourself, who professes their allegiance to the common good, can then come up with this, which adds nothing to the debate, and makes you look rather too arrogant for comfort. Presumably "their senses" is what you think should happen!

Communism died years ago so why does the far left want to go back in time ?

Because the gap between rich and poor has widened to the point of being obscene, and the rich and greedy are expecting the poorest and most vulnerable to pick up the tab through austerity cuts for the greed and stupidity of the Masters Of The Universe directly responsible for the financial crash of 2008?

That word "correct" more than any other reminds me starkly of East Germany.

Well of course that is just the sort of society that Corbyn and many of his supporters would doubtless have us living in given time. Freedom and liberty are incompatible with Corbyn's ideas.

The “Carry On” franchise is dated now, but a “Carry On Corbyn” film might yet revive it.

What proposals are these? In the link posted earlier he said he was more interested in taxing business as opposed to people? Has he said anything about personal tax since he got his new position?

so you're suggesting that a life long hard left socialist has within days of shadow office decided he doesnt believe in anything he's said for past couple of decades? and if so, how does that square with the notions of conviction politics, standing up for beliefs?

he has advocated a 60% rate (so we will see a flight of people cf France), 7% on NI, wealth taxes (because in his world its just cash in the bank), and financial transaction tax which will be paid by everyone taking a loan or buying shares or holding a pension (boo, capitialists). there would be no growth of industry or anything else in the UK as the capitial would leave, lest it be taxed or confiscated in the next round of nationalisation. i dont expect him to have laid down Labour party policy in 2 days, but i do expect to see these policies put forward to conference this autumn.

I despised Thatcher.
But even as a labour supporter, I cannot deny that something had to be done to modernise the country. She had a vision as to how that was to be done.
In my eyes she went too far, but she did achieve what she set out to do. In the main the beneficiaries were the middle classes.

The difference with the current crop of Tories is they are following an ideological agenda, with no real vision of what they want to achieve. They are purely protecting the interests of the wealthy by ensuring all costs are paid by the poor and vulnerable.

The middle classes are not benefitting from austerity, nor will they IMHO.
They are being conned by a party they think are on their side.

Labour need to offer a real alternative to what is in place. Corbyn is the only candidate offering that. He may be unelectable at the moment. But who knows what the next 4 years will bring.

Given that Cameron has said he won't seek a third term as Prime Minister then the Tories are likely to have an alternative leader. The bookies have 4 realistic candidates - Osborne is favourite, just ahead of Boris, with Theresa May and Sajid Javed behind him. God help the electorate if the choice is Corbyn vs Boris.

With The Lib Dems presently on their knees and Farage potentially out of the game in 2020 it promises to be interesting, that's for sure.

Capitalism does work. Deforestation works. Billionaires increasing their wealth by millions every day, while at the same time thousands are driven into poverty works. Selling off the NHS, an American style bankrupting/debilitating healthcare system works. Polluting our seas with millions of tonnes of plastics works. Having students in a lifetime of debt, never being able to afford their own homes works. Foreign investors buying our services and utilities and selling them back to us for extortionate prices works. CEO's earning thousands of times that of their most important workers works. Exploiting African countries by taking their resources for obscenely cheap prices while keeping the locals into poverty works. Bringing in desperate foreign workers to join our rat race, or stealing the best academics from poor nations works. Fracking works. Driving disabled into such poverty that they are forced to live in decrepit conditions and are literally dying because of it works. Patenting life-saving medicines and selling them for extortionate prices so that nobody other than the rich can afford them works. Sweat shops work. Suppressing environmentally friendly technologies to keep oil as the worlds top industry works. Profit-driven wars work.

He's right, capitalism does work... but is it really the best way of doing things? Is it really the world we want to live in, or that we should be living in, in the 21st century?

To paraphrase Churchill's quote regarding democracy, "capitalism is the worst system in the world apart from everything else".

There is no REALISTIC alternative I'm afraid.
