England lift Nordic title
Sunday, 08 August, 2010
Max Clayton and Adam Morgan goals help defeat Sweden in Final.
England defeated Sweden 2-1 to lift the Nordic Tournament title in Finland.
A perfect group campaign, which comprised victories over Finland (5-0), Denmark (2-0) and Iceland (2-1), catapulted Kenny Swain’s young side into the Final and they took just five minutes to break the deadlock through Max Clayton. It was his third goal in three matches.
Victor Soderstrom equalised for Sweden early in the second half, though there was a hint of offside about his 43rd minute strike.
It mattered not, however, as Liverpool’s Adam Morgan grabbed what would ultimately prove the winner just four minutes later.
After last season’s Victory Shield triumph, this was the second title this particular group of players have collected and it sets them up nicely for The FA International U17 Tournament, which gets underway on 25 August.
England
13 Shane Lewis, 2 Tyias Browning, 17 Sam Magri (C), 18 Courtney Meppen Walters, 6 Ellis Plummer (3 Jasper Johns, 41), 4 John Lundstram, 8 Jake Caskey (12 Louis Hutton, 67), 10 Max Clayton (15 James Ward-Prowse, 77), 9 Matthias Fanimo (16 Adil Nabi, 72), 14 Adam Morgan, 11 Alex Henshall (7 Nathan Redmond, 67)
Substitutes not used 1 George Willis, 5 Adam Jackson
