I stupidly entered my email address in response to something or other and now I am plagued by up to 40 junk emails a day. Is there any way of stopping them. I have reported them as junk and replied to the senders and requested that I am taken off their lists, all to no avail. They still keep coming. Any advice please

How are you getting your emails? is it a hotmail address or similar, or a more standard email address eg @sky.com, @ntlworld.com etc, and being looked at via outlook or outlook express?

They come to both my hotmail account and my web address which is a pop 3 account. They come under the heading confirmation dept, grocery dept, flight dept etc, also I get the usual viagra, cialis and replica watch ones.

You shoud never reply to them, It'll show the spammers that your account is active and they'll just send you more.

2 things.

1. Never reply to them
2. Go to Junk Email in your email software (Outlook etc) and make sure the filter is set and switched on, and that you have downloaded any appropriate updates.

If you're up to date, then you'll find it will filter out most of them. In Hotmail, same thing, get the latest version and set the filters up.

No spam since I changed to Sky. Mind you that is the only good thing about it.

I have a main yahoo and so that gathers spam.

When posting a reply on the Argus site, I accidentally listed another email address that I tend to keep private. Since then it's been getting spam so i blame The Argus.

If using outlook, you can go to <tools>, <rules wizard> and create new rules. Its easy to use from the templates, there's one with "with specific words in the body"...set it so that any with specific words such as viagra, penis, or whatever you find is a common word in the email, then set the "rule description" to "move it to the specified folder" and put it straight in your deleted mail. Although this won't actually stop you getting the emails, you just won't see them. You might miss any good jokes though if they include the key words!! You can keep adding rules and should gradually find you won't get to see them anymore.
But definitely agree with previous posters..never reply to spam as they then know its a valid account, and will just send more.
If that doesn't make sense, and you want some more help, pm me.

Does have to be said Gmail is VERY good at this, as well as everything else it does. If you don't already have a Gmail account, whyever not?

You won't believe the difference it makes. Pisses all over Hotmail, Yahoo and all the rest.

If I could just create new folders to filter my mail and sort it accordingly then Gmail would be entirely flawless.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 99, if I could offer you only one tip for the future, gmail would be it

YEs, it's the biz.

You do have to check the spam folder from time to time as genuine ones slip through but apart from that it works a treat.

And stop visiting dodgy sites - and if you must, use another email address.
