This isn't about porn however it's dressed up, it's about being able to control what information we have access to.
Emotive words and arguments will be used by those who are trying to bring this in, making the Daily Mail readers believe the BS and back it.
How long after that will certain non pornographic sites be put on the opt in/out list, independent news sites? bloggers? and so on.

Welcome to China.
of course it's about making it more difficult for kids to access porn , an unworkable gimmick maybe, but that's the long and the short of it ,you're being ridiculously paranoid.

this is all about control of the internet.....first porn, then sites that speak against the status quo...........pretty clever......and the way they always do things....slowly first....get support....then bam.

look at CCTV, and the Patriot Act....people love it.

So (I haven't paid much attention to this story) I assumed it was just the extreme stuff Cameron was going after with this campaign. Are you all saying he just wants to make it harder to access any porn sites?

Seems a little bit nanny state to me if that's the case. If you have kids, it's up to you to ensure they don't see things they shouldn't, otherwise surely it's up to you what you view? I'm not seeking to defend (say) paedophiles searching for images of children, clearly that should be stopped, but normal men- alright, "people"- looking for a bit of entertainment? Can't see what that's got to do with David Cameron. Or the Daily Mail. Where does it end??

Surely the thing to do is to go after the sites that are illegal and the people behind them, rather than a broad brush approach.

So, prior to the online revolution you could only buy hardcore material/R18 certificate via licensed shops...and it is illegal for UK operators to even send R18 DVDs today. So, just the legal system catching up with online access. I don't recall the outcry prior to easy online hardcore porn access.

NSC...where

911 is about terrorism.....not about oil or removing freedom.

77 is about terrorism.....not about the UK going into the middle east with the USA.

Boston bombings are about terrorism......not about a martial law experiment where a whole city was under military rule.

Snowden is a whistleblower......not a patsy to get everyone to know all is collected.

Austerity is good and we are in it together and happy to help.........and not about an elite wanting to milk their criminal QE scam for longer.

Blockage of nudity on the internet is about helping kids......and not about a first test at more control and filtering of the internet.

**

very strange on here sometimes.......it really is mainstream media's heaven on here......jump....how high? why are we jumping? [instert anything here].

sigh....

queue i believe in aliens as that will help isolate this type of view from ones media delivered belief system.

Not convinced that this is about paranoia; I am wary of a government forcing private companies to regulate access to the Internet.

OK..

OK..

Boston bombings are about terrorism......not about a martial law experiment where a whole city was under military rule.

What..?

Snowden is a whistleblower......not a patsy to get everyone to know all is collected.

Riiiight...

Austerity is good and we are in it together and happy to help.........and not about an elite wanting to milk their criminal QE scam for longer.

Suuurree..

Blockage of nudity on the internet is about helping kids......and not about a first test at more control and filtering of the internet.

Isn't that EXACTLY what's currently being debated?

The list started reasonably well enough..

a hole lot of smoke and mirrors in the media my friend.....research Snowdens history......so you think as they are debating porn it means it's not about something else? problem reaction solution again.........do you really think Mr arms dealer Cameron who has helped bomb children civilians, who went to Egypt when they got their new president a year ago to sell arms with his corp pals, do you think he cares about someone having a hand shandy in front of a screen?

research child porn rings and you will come very close to the conservatives and top judges and police too....i could post loads about research into this....but no point here as people are in the Sun newspaper feel good vibe and that sandpit is too strong to pull one out of.....but i i give you:

• Tory Party General election candidate, Michael Powell was convicted and jailed for three years for downloading hardcore child porn.

• Tory Party Councillor (Wickbar, Bristol) Roger Talboys was convicted and jailed for six years for multiple sex attacks on children.

• Tory Party MP (Billericay) Harvey Proctor stood trial for sex offences of a sado-masochistic nature against teenage boys, and was forced to resign.

• Labour Councillor (Newton Aycliffe) Martin Locklyn was convicted and jailed for fifteen years for sexually abusing three fourteen year-old boys.

• Labour Councillor (North Lincolnshire) David Spooner was convicted and jailed for a year for masturbating in front of two young boys.

• Prominent Labour Party activist Mark Tann (who has met Tony and Cherie at Party functions) recently received a fifteen year sentence for raping a four year old girl on two separate occasions.

• Entire Labour Party conspired to conceal the activities of Labour Party activist and serial child-molester Mark Trotter, who died from Aids before he could be convicted.

• Lib-Dem Council candidate (Tower Hamlets), Justin Sillman was convicted and jailed for two years for sexual abuse of young boys.

yep, the Government care about what we view online......it is all about filtering out alternative news sites that have the backing for information like the above.

My Internet is my fiancés name, and I've asked her to remove the filter when it happens and she's agreed.

But for those in not such a fortunate position, can a proxy server get round it?

the implementation is yet to be seen, but i doubt a proxy on its own would bypass anything, you still have to go through you ISP to reach the proxy. however a VPN would circumvent just about anything. ironically, this is worse than the current protection offered by ISPs who install local firewalls that parents can activate. when Cameron was banging on about something being "installed" to protect all computers, it was painfully obvious he doesnt understand the technologies involved or the consequences. I also note the focus on protection in the home, with nothing said about blocking phones...

You can't really expect him to understand the finer details, though, he was only reading what was in front of him. I did notice he wittered on about this filter function working on any device connecting to your wi-fi within the home, clearly couldn't touch a phone not on wi-fi.

Such a hilarious overreaction. Nobody is stopping you accessing porn. They're just asking you to confirm that you're old enough to access it. A filter is switched on and all you have to do is switch it off. Find something important to whine about!:flounce:

It isn't just about porn though , the filter blocks any material considered too mature for a 14 year old to be corrupted with as dictated by the nanny state. Censorship under the guise of protecting the children. Why should adults have to "opt-out" from the default setting to maintain the status quo ante ?
