From AS Roma website: https://www.asroma.com/it/notizie/7...si-giallorossi-che-si-recheranno-in-trasferta

Key bits:
  • Usual meeting point - King & Queen
  • AS Roma fans can use either local buses or trains to transfer to the Amex
  • Alcohol will NOT be served in the ground
  • They'll be kept in for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • They'll then be escorted to station (apart from those on organised coaches)
I wonder how many flares they'll manage to smuggle in.

I hope they get searched 5 times - as we did
I hope they get ID'd and their tickets checked 3 times - as we did
I hope they have to take their shoes off - as we did (I hope it's pissing down)
I hope there are not enough busses to take them into town - like with us.
I hope they're kept behind for at least an hour

Of course none of that will happen, they'll be welcomed with open arms and let off flares and fireworks.

On this basis are we hoping a couple of thiers also take a scalpel up the arse to even the score?
I’m not sure two wrongs make a right when it comes to our treatment of continental fans.
At the end of this campaign I’ll be happy that we’ve set a standard and treated people the way we’d like to be treated.
If these clubs have vermin fans, old bill that treat you like shit and over the top stewards all with the blessing of the club, that’s on them. Palace fans dream of shit like that, not me, I’m too old.

Absolutely. It's also worth remembering that some of us only met really nice friendly people while in Rome and at the stadium. I even got frisked by a gorgeous steward. I've got really fond memories of those people, and I hope the very many decent roma fans will have a memory of us that way too.

Likewise, I was pleasantly surprised at what seemed a light touch approach into the ground. Yes, there were a few more checks than for a usual away day, but everyone was polite and good humoured. That was my experience anyway.

Not sure I get the "tit for tat " sentiment either. If it is abused by them then that is on them, and the acceptance/indulgence of the Ultras at some continental clubs creates the strategy employed by the security forces tasked with dealing with it. Its just easier to be S**t to smaller number of away fans than deal with the inherent problem. That is not us though and I am OK with that and think its great that most fans come to our ground with no intimidation tactics employed justifying (in their minds) them to act like tw@ts..

Other than the obvious trouble with locals the night before the match, the main access problems were largely due to the antiquated concrete stadium built for athletics and the consequent behaviours of the police, authorities and Roma’s ultras. Let’s show off that the UK, particularly Brighton is leading the way in stadium design, customer care and equality!!

I think "light touch" is a little generous. the barking dogs, riot shields and number of checks felt to me to be a little over the top compared to other matches. Amsterdam was definitely light touch and "low-profile", but this was significantly heavier than that. That said, no-one was unpleasant doing it. They no doubt have reasons or experiences to suggest it is necessary, but I felt it to be a little over the top..

Lightly searched 3 times
ID twice
Didn't take shoes off
Ended up on the second wave of buses but they were pretty good all things considered
We didn't get kept in for an hour

If you could read that again there is NO bus transfer, they can use any transport service. There were scuffles at Brighton station against Ajax, I hope there won’t be any trouble, I’ll be travelling up early. The police will do their job I hope.
Yes, you're right Jack ... I saw 'bus' but missed 'local' bus. I will edit my OP and share your concerns (y)

We were searched three times, and it was all very friendly. And the pretty 20 year old security girl had a lovely smile!
We had our ticket scanned once, and showed our ID twice.
We saw nobody asked to remove their shoes! WTF were you wearing!?
Walked briskly onto the first wave of buses and were in our accommodation by 10.20pm. As well organised as you could hope for really.
We were kept in for just 35 minutes after the final whistle. Again - you could scarcely hope for better.

I think you must have somehow rubbed them all up the wrong way!

I don’t think anything will happen but I can see this being absolute chaos at the station with escorted groups arriving with a queue halfway down queens road. Then inevitably the escorted groups get a queue jump ahead of others. The bus system while annoying has worked perfectly for every other game, why drop it now? There has been next to no trouble. I don’t want either clubs fans getting hurt.

The bus being removed is a bit bizarre (yes there’s a cost) but it’s win/win. It generally keeps the trouble makers in one place and offers a simple passage to the stadium for the decent Roma fans that don’t know where they’re going while facing a language barrier
