In 8 years or so, NSC has accumulated over 20,000 image attachments...

Maybe you have, but by linking to the images on the web, using the IMG tags.
These are all photos that people have actually uploaded to NSC using the attachment feature.

That's OK.
The problem with the IMG tagged photos is that if the original image moves, or the host site ceases to exist, NSC will just show a red cross where there was once the image. By using the attachment feature the photo is uploaded to NSC so will always be here.

...and they've largely been lost, until now, unless you went into a thread where one was attached.

Under the Community link above you'll find a new link to our Attachment Gallery where you can search for all images by username or just peruse by date.
